[Development and validation of a comprehensive evaluation index system for preconception health behaviors in reproduc-tive-aged populations].

OBJECTIVES: To develop and validate a comprehensive evaluation index system for preconception health behaviors in reproductive-aged populations. METHODS: An initial indicator pool was established based on domestic and international preconception care guidelines and literature. After discussion by the indicator development group, a preliminary framework comprising 5 first-level and 22 second-level indicators was formed. Two rounds of Delphi expert consultation were conducted from October 2022 to March 2023. The coefficient of variation, Kendall's W, and statistical significance tests were used

Effectiveness of Virtual Yoga for Chronic Low Back Pain: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

IMPORTANCE: Chronic low back pain (CLBP) is a common condition with substantial impact on patients, in the form of physical and emotional suffering; health care costs; productivity; and health care professional burden. Although clinical guidelines recommend use of nonpharmacologic treatments first, such as yoga, there is a gap between guidelines and implementation in clinical practice. OBJECTIVE: To compare the effects of virtual yoga classes vs a wait-list control on CLBP intensity, back-related function, sleep quality, and pain medication use. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: Single-blin

Country data on AMR in Vietnam in the context of community-acquired respiratory tract infections: links between antibiotic susceptibility, local and international antibiotic prescribing guidelines, access to medicines and clinical outcome.

BACKGROUND: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the biggest threats to global public health. Selection of resistant bacteria is driven by inappropriate use of antibiotics, amongst other factors. COVID-19 may have exacerbated AMR due to unnecessary antibiotic prescribing. Country-level knowledge is needed to understand options for action. OBJECTIVES: To review the current situation with respect to AMR in Vietnam and initiatives addressing it. Identifying areas where more information is required will provide a call to action to minimize any further rises in AMR within Vietnam and improve p

Bearing the burden of spill-over effects: Living with a woman affected by symptomatic pelvic organ prolapse after vaginal birth - from a partner's perspective.

INTRODUCTION: Symptomatic pelvic organ prolapse (sPOP) can have a negative impact on a woman's health. While research exists about the impact of sPOP on women, little is known about the effect on their partners. Therefore, this study aimed to explore, from the partner's perspective, what it means to live with a woman with symptomatic pelvic organ prolapse after vaginal birth. METHODS: A qualitative explorative design with a constructed grounded theory approach was taken to analyse the interviews of 13 partners who experienced living with a woman who had sPOP after vaginal birth. RESULTS: "Th

Canadian stroke best practice consensus statement: Secondary stroke prevention during pregnancy.

The Canadian Stroke Best Practice Consensus Statement: Secondary Stroke Prevention during Pregnancy, is the first of a two-part series devoted to stroke in pregnancy. This document focuses on unique aspects of secondary stroke prevention in a woman with a prior history of stroke or transient ischemic attack who is, or is planning to become, pregnant. Although stroke is relatively rare in this cohort, several aspects of pregnancy can increase stroke risk during or immediately after pregnancy. The rationale for the development of this consensus statement is based on the premise that stroke in th

Evaluation of the care of women living with HIV/AIDS in São Paulo, Brazil.

To evaluate care provided to women living with HIV in São Paulo, Brazil, based on their own experiences, patients from HIV/AIDS reference clinics answered a questionnaire on circumstances of HIV testing, health personnel's attitudes at diagnosis, adherence to follow-up, services provided by care centers and access to laboratory monitoring. From September 1999 to February 2000, 1,068 women were interviewed. Most had over 8 years of education and reported having regular sexual partners, being mothers and family caregivers. They were diagnosed as HIV-infected for 4.36 +/- 3.15 years. The majority

Sexual and reproductive health services during outbreaks, epidemics, and pandemics in sub-Saharan Africa: a literature scoping review.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic could worsen adolescent sexual and reproductive health (ASRH). We sought evidence on the indirect impacts of previous infectious disease epidemics and the current COVID-19 pandemic on the uptake of ASRH in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) to design relevant digital solutions. METHODS: We undertook a literature scoping review to synthesize evidence on the indirect impacts of COVID-19 on ASRH in SSA per the Arksey and O'Malley framework and PRISMA reporting guidelines. We conducted the search on PubMed, Embase, Google Scholar, and ResearchGate in June and November 2020

Antenatal corticosteroids for management of preterm birth: a multi-country analysis of health system bottlenecks and potential solutions.

BACKGROUND: Preterm birth complications are the leading cause of deaths for children under five years. Antenatal corticosteroids (ACS) are effective at reducing mortality and serious morbidity amongst infants born at <34 weeks gestation. WHO guidelines strongly recommend use of ACS for women at risk of imminent preterm birth where gestational age, imminent preterm birth, and risk of maternal infection can be assessed, and appropriate maternal/newborn care provided. However, coverage remains low in high-burden countries for reasons not previously systematically investigated. METHODS: The bottl

Incentives and barriers regarding immunization against influenza and hepatitis of health care workers.

A meeting of the Viral Hepatitis Prevention Board in Barcelona in November 2012 brought together health care professionals concerned with viral hepatitis and those concerned with other vaccine-preventable diseases (especially influenza) in order to share experiences and find ways to increase the protection of health care workers through vaccination. Despite the existence of numerous intergovernmental and national resolutions, recommendations or published guidelines, vaccine uptake rates in health care workers are often shockingly low and campaigns to increase those rates have been generally un

A pilot randomised controlled trial of personalised care for depressed patients with symptomatic coronary heart disease in South London general practices: the UPBEAT-UK RCT protocol and recruitment.

BACKGROUND: Community studies reveal people with coronary heart disease (CHD) are twice as likely to be depressed as the general population and that this co-morbidity negatively affects the course and outcome of both conditions. There is evidence for the efficacy of collaborative care and case management for depression treatment, and whilst NICE guidelines recommend these approaches only where depression has not responded to psychological, pharmacological, or combined treatments, these care approaches may be particularly relevant to the needs of people with CHD and depression in the earlier st

The state of diet-related NCD policies in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Tunisia and Vietnam: a comparative assessment that introduces a 'policy cube' approach.

We assessed the technical content of sugar, salt and trans-fats policies in six countries in relation to the World Health Organization 'Best Buys' guidelines for the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). National research teams identified policies and strategies related to promoting healthy diets and restricting unhealthy consumption, including national legislation, development plans and strategies and health sector-related policies and plans. We identified relevant text in relation to the issuing agency, overarching aims, goals, targets and timeframes, specific policy me

Navigating the Complexities of Cancer Treatment-Induced Hypertension.

Cancer therapy-induced hypertension (HTN) is an increasingly recognized complication associated with a wide range of anticancer agents, including vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibitors, proteasome inhibitors, tyrosine kinase inhibitors, and alkylating agents. The pathogenesis of HTN in this setting is multifactorial, involving mechanisms such as endothelial dysfunction, nitric oxide (NO) suppression, sympathetic nervous system activation, and vascular remodeling. Additional factors, including paraneoplastic syndromes, poorly controlled pain, mood disturbances, and overlapping car

COVID-19 pandemic: Practical considerations on the organization of an allergy clinic-An EAACI/ARIA Position Paper.

BACKGROUND: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has evolved into a pandemic infectious disease transmitted by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). Allergists and other healthcare providers (HCPs) in the field of allergies and associated airway diseases are on the front line, taking care of patients potentially infected with SARS-CoV-2. Hence, strategies and practices to minimize risks of infection for both HCPs and treated patients have to be developed and followed by allergy clinics. METHOD: The scientific information on COVID-19 was analysed by a literature se

Postcode lottery? Do clinical commissioning groups differ in their funding of prominent ear correction surgery.

In 2013 Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) were created and became responsible for the planning and commissioning of health care services in their area. The Royal College of Surgeons and the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons created guideline for the CCGs in 2013 for the surgical treatment of prominent ears. By looking at each of the CCGs' websites, we aim to review their equity and how well they adhere to standards to determine whether there is a regional variation for funding of this procedure. We found that 47% of the CCGs will fund this procedure only

Helping women choose appropriate hormonal contraception: update on risks, benefits, and indications.

Primary care physicians frequently provide contraceptive counseling to women who are interested in family planning, have medical conditions that may be worsened by pregnancy, or have medical conditions that necessitate the use of potentially teratogenic medications. Effective counseling requires up-to-date knowledge about hormonal contraceptive methods that differ in hormone dosage, cycle length, and hormone-free intervals and are delivered by oral, transdermal, transvaginal, injectable, or implantable routes. Effective counseling also requires an understanding of a woman's preferences and med

Integration of HIV Prevention With Sexual and Reproductive Health Services: Evidence for Contraceptive Options and HIV Outcomes Study Experience of Integrating Oral Pre-exposure HIV Prophylaxis in Family Planning Services in Lusaka, Zambia.

The WHO guideline on the integration of family planning (FP) and pre-exposure HIV prophylaxis (PrEP) to enhance the health of women and adolescent girls is reflected in the Zambia Consolidated Guidelines for Treatment and Prevention of HIV Infection, 2020. There is however a dearth of data on the integration of PrEP and FP in Zambia. We describe the integration of oral PrEP in FP services using the Evidence for Contraceptive Options and HIV Outcomes (ECHO) study experience at Kamwala District Health Center in Lusaka, Zambia. The provision of oral PrEP at Kamwala started in October 2017, lastin
