Planning and advocating for cervical cancer prevention in Kebbi State, Nigeria: Learning points for the global call to eliminate cervical cancer.

The WHO is leading a global call for the elimination of cervical cancer by the year 2030. Although the call in itself is ambitious, the adopted strategy is realistic. The WHO is optimistic that cervical cancer will be eliminated as a disease of public health concern if 90% of girls receive the HPV vaccine by 15 years of age, 70% of women are screened by HPV testing at 35 and 45 years, and 90% of identified cases are treated. The success of the global call will significantly depend on the capacity to operationalize, finance, and implement the strategy in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC),

Development of comparative and machine learning-based methodologies for the identification of inks applicable in the field of cultural heritage and forensic science.

This study proposes the development of comparative and machine learning-based methodologies for the identification of inks and pigments, with potential applications in both cultural heritage diagnostics and forensic science. A preliminary selection of black inks from various pen brands was analyzed using Raman spectroscopy to define a framework for spectral comparison based on peak shifts and area ratios derived from curve fitting. The proposed method introduces a system based on spectral compatibility allowing the classification of inks based on their compositional similarity. In parallel, an

The Proposed U.S. Office of Management and Budget Uniform Guidance Revisions: Implications for Scientific Integrity and HIV Research.

Federal investment in HIV research has transformed HIV from a fatal disease into a manageable chronic condition through advances in prevention, treatment, implementation, and care. On May 29, 2026, the U.S. Office of Management and Budget proposed revisions to the Uniform Guidance governing federal financial assistance that could influence how federally funded HIV research is reviewed, awarded, and sustained. This commentary examines the proposed revisions from the perspective of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (ANAC), emphasizing the importance of scientific integrity, independent peer

Modern Surgical Site Infection Prevention: Evidence, Gaps, and Future Directions.

Surgical site infections (SSIs) remain among the most consequential and costly complications in surgery. Their persistence reflects the expanding threat of multidrug-resistant (MDR) organisms and the practical limits of even increasingly data-driven, systems-level prevention programs. Contemporary prevention is multimodal across the perioperative pathway. Preoperatively, patient optimization is central, and foundational measures include alcohol-based skin antisepsis, nutritional support, smoking cessation, and strict glycemic control. Intraoperatively, the emphasis shifts to technical precisio

Efficacy and Implementation of Digital Health Interventions in Improving Cognitive, Psychological, and Quality of Life Among Stroke Survivors: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Post-stroke cognitive impairment, depression, and anxiety significantly contribute to long-term disability, yet conventional interventions often face barriers in accessibility and personalization. Digital health interventions (DHIs) have emerged as promising adjuncts to stroke rehabilitation, and previous reviews have synthesized their effects across several rehabilitation outcomes. This systematic review and meta-analysis updated this evidence by separately evaluating global cognitive performance, depression, anxiety, quality of life (QoL), and implementation-related indicators among adult st

Digital Health in Pediatric Oncology and Hematooncology: A Quasi-Systematic Review of Telehealth, mHealth and Precision Medicine.

Pediatric oncological and hematological diseases remain a significant challenge due to their complexity, the need for personalized treatment, and long-term follow-up. Recent advances in medical technologies, particularly in information technology (IT), telemedicine, mobile health (mHealth), and precision medicine, have opened new possibilities for improving care and supporting clinical decision-making in pediatric patients. This quasi-systematic review examines the current landscape of emerging technologies applied in pediatric oncology and hematology. A structured literature search was conduc

A pilot qualitative study of patient understanding and perceptions of genetic counselors and cascade testing in the context of transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis.

Genetics-informed care is becoming increasingly important in the management of cardiomyopathy (CM). Despite current guidelines recommending genetic testing and counselors, these services are vastly underutilized. To our knowledge, this is the first qualitative study to examine patient perspectives (n = 10) on genetic counselors and cascade testing in the context of cardiovascular care in transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR), with the goal to inform implementation strategies for integrating genetic services. Codebook thematic analysis of semistructured interviews was conducted with adult patients d

From PrEP-Related Mistrust to Trusted Prevention Ecosystems: Implementation Priorities Following Simon et al. and Jaiswal et al.

PrEP-related medical mistrust is not simply a lack of trust; it is a relational, historically rooted and continuously reinforced response to perceived institutional betrayal, everyday discrimination, and inequitable prevention systems. Building on recent AIDS and Behavior articles by Simon et al. and Jaiswal et al. describing PrEP-related mistrust, distrust, and misinformation among Black sexual minority men and socioeconomically diverse young sexual minority men from multiple racial and ethnic groups in the United States, we argue that the field must move from documenting mistrust to engineer

Transparency in Externally Validated Models: A systematic review of machine learning vs. logistic regression for predicting colorectal anastomotic leakage.

INTRODUCTION: Colorectal resection carries a 2.8 %-30 % risk of anastomotic leakage. Machine learning can estimate risks and guide decisions, but clinical implementation remains inadequate due to transparency issues. This review assesses the performance and transparency of machine learning models compared to logistic regression. METHODS: A systematic review followed PRISMA guidelines. Medline, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases were searched for studies using Logistic Regression or Machine Learning with external validation for colorectal anastomotic leakage prediction. Perspectives of Primary Healthcare Workers on HIV Injectable Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP): A Scoping Review Protocol.

South Africa continues to experience a high HIV prevalence, necessitating innovative prevention strategies aligned with the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets. Long-acting injectable pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), such as cabotegravir (CAB-LA), offers a promising alternative to daily oral regimens. However, the perspectives of primary healthcare workers (PHCWs)-key implementers of this intervention-remain underexplored. This scoping review aims to systematically map existing literature on PHCWs' knowledge, awareness, perceptions, barriers, facilitators, and implementation experiences related to injecta

Nursing delirium management to promoting critically ill patients' safety: an umbrella review.

Delirium is an acute disorder characterized by changes in the patient's cognitive function, which another neurocognitive or pre-existing disease cannot explain. It produces adverse outcomes for critically ill patients and their families related to adverse events associated with the accidental removal of medical devices that increase the risk of the patient and the length of stay at the hospital, manifested by agitation and confusion behaviors. Five reviewers conducted An Umbrella Review from May to August 2023 through research in the databases Medline, CINAHL, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane

Multimodal immersion in English language learning in higher education: A systematic review.

The development of multimodality has led to increased research on its use to improve students' English language competency. However, no recent review has analyzed multimodality in English language learning in higher education. This systematic review examines 34 research articles published from 2013 to 2024. The primary focus of the study is to explore the application of multimodal pedagogies in higher education, the methods and materials used to assist learners in acquiring English language skills, the English language skills acquired through the usage of multimodality, and the main results of
