Different microsurgical instruments and laser systems have been used to perform stapedotomy. We evaluated prospectively subjective intraoperative effect of CO2 laser use during stapedotomy performed under local anesthesia in 67 patients with otosclerosis. Hearing results were evaluated 4-8 months after surgery according to Committee on Hearing and Equilibrium guidelines. The CO2 laser was used 3-12 times to create a stapedotomy opening. BACKGROUND: Liposuction of the neck is currently one of the most common cosmetic surgical procedures. In the present study, the author describes his experience with neck and jowl laser-assisted liposuction.
STUDY DESIGN/MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this procedure, submental lipodystrophy is treated with an Nd:YAG laser, at a 1,064 nm wavelength. Over a 5-year-period, 82 subjects were treated using 6-W power, 40-Hz frequency, 150-mJ energy, and 100-microsecond pulse width parameters. Histology was performed on fatty tissue samples.

PURPOSE: To evaluate femtosecond laser technology for penetrating keratoplasty in patients with various corneal diseases.
DESIGN: Interventional case series.
METHODS: Five patients aged 45 to 81 years underwent penetrating keratoplasty using the 20/10 Perfect Vision Femtec femtosecond laser system in September 2005. Patients had granular corneal dystrophy, Fuchs endothelial dystrophy, keratoconus, and herpetic keratitis with endothelial decompensation. We investigated the feasibility of using laser tissue welding techniques to perform transcanal underlay tympanoplasty. We used 10 temporal bones obtained from human cadavers. In recent years, a number of studies have evaluated the treatment of acne using electromagnetic waves, such as lasers, photodynamic therapy, visible light or radio waves. While the efficacy of laser treatment is still uncertain, photodynamic therapy shows promising results, but with marked side-effects, as destruction of sebaceous glands. Treatment with blue light (405-420 nm wavelength) also appears effective and can be regarded as an treatment option for inflammatory acne.

This article reports the successful use in our clinic of CO(2)-laser to reduce severe pain in the treatment of oral aphthosis.
