Despite their high ionic conductivity and mechanical processability, sulfide electrolytes suffer from severe interfacial reactivity and structural incompatibility with Ni-rich layered oxide cathodes, causing rapid capacity fading that limits their practical viability in all-solid-state lithium batteries. Conventional coatings provide primarily physical isolation without fully eliminating reactive surface sulfur sites, rendering the interface vulnerable to gradual deterioration over prolonged cycling. Here, we propose a coordination-driven interfacial reconstruction strategy that exploits the v

Heavier analogues of carbonyl compounds are challenging to isolate due to the intrinsic instability of E[double bond, length as m-dash]O double bonds (E = Si-Pb). Herein, we demonstrate that a germanium(iv) µ-oxo chloro dimer, [YGe(Cl)O]2 (2), supported by an iminophosphinoyl-tethered yldiide ligand (Y = [Ph2P(NMes)-C-PPh3]-), serves as a versatile platform for the generation of unprecedented germanium oxo species. Treatment of the dimer with H2O·B(C6F5)3 enables the isolation of the first example of a Lewis acid-base stabilized germaphosgene, YH → Cl2GeO → B(C6F5)3 (3), through conversion of

The development of efficient and sustainable nonprecious metal catalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is central to advancing next-generation fuel cells and metal-air batteries. Fe-N-C catalysts derived from biomass have emerged as promising candidates, yet the influence of activation chemistry on the active-site formation and electrocatalytic performance remains insufficiently explored. Here, we unveil how KOH (strong base) and ZnCl2 (Lewis acid) modulate the chemical activation of wine grape pomace, a readily available agri-food residue, to generate Fe-N-C electrocatalysts through

Organic-based luminescent materials have broad applications across illumination, display, and imaging. However, intramolecular vibrations and intermolecular interactions, such as π-π stacking, can induce non-radiative transition and lead to low efficiency and fluorescence quenching for solid-state materials, especially for small conjugated molecules. In the present study, a facile yet versatile conceptual approach to fabricate a new type of luminescent materials, i.e., alkali metal N-heteroarene salts, was developed via a metal substitution strategy. Over 30 solid-state ionic compounds have be

Aluminium comprises over 8% of Earth's crust and is the most abundant metallic constituent1. Historically, aluminium catalysis has predominantly exploited the inherent Lewis acidity associated with its stable +III oxidation state2. Owing to its uniquely low electronegativity (1.61)-the lowest among p-block elements-and the absence of an inert-pair effect, aluminium presents formidable intrinsic challenges for engaging in catalytic redox transformations. Here we report the redox catalytic capability of a low-valent aluminium species, carbazolylaluminylene3, which carries out a complete Al(I)/Al

In this study, we report a streamlined one-pot synthesis of a new series of (E)-4-phenyl-2-(2-(pyren-1-ylmethylene)hydrazinyl)thiazole derivatives (4a-4o). The reaction involves the condensation of pyrene-1-carbaldehyde, thiosemicarbazide, and α-halo ketones in the presence of a catalytic amount of InCl3 as a Lewis acid catalyst, carried out under reflux in a (1 : 1, v/v) H2O/EtOH medium at 80 °C. This protocol provides several key advantages, including mild reaction conditions, short reaction times, excellent yields, broad functional group tolerance, and the added benefit of chromatography-fr

Innovative cloud algorithms-assisted portable Zn-based fluorescent sensor arrays (ZnMOF-74 and Mn:ZnS QDs) are proposed for rapid, sensitive and on-site detection of four antibiotics, enrofloxacin (ENX), chlortetracycline (CTC), oxytetracycline (OTC) and tetracycline (TC). This sensor arrays for the first time utilize the Lewis acid-base regulation of ZnMOF-74 and the crystal field effect of Mn:ZnS QDs to generate characteristic fluorescent “fingerprints” for the four antibiotics. Through the optimization of various chemometric algorithms (PCA-LDA, PLS-DA, KNN and RF), the recognition accuracy

Conformational variations in α-syn fibrils are thought to underlie the distinct clinical features of synucleinopathies, including Lewy body dementia (LBD), Parkinson's disease (PD), and multiple system atrophy (MSA), suggesting that distinct fibril structures act as molecular fingerprints linked to disease phenotypes. While the origins of these conformational variations remain unclear, increasing evidence points to membranes as key modulators of fibril conformations. In this study, we investigated how age-related alterations in membrane composition and fluidity influence α-syn fibril formation

Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), a synucleinopathy, is the second most common form of dementia after Alzheimer's disease (AD). Yet, DLB is often more aggressive and clinically challenging to diagnose due to overlapping symptoms with AD and Parkinson's disease dementia. Reliable biomarkers are necessary, since a definitive diagnosis of DLB currently requires postmortem tissue analysis. Blood-based biomarkers represent a minimally invasive and cost-effective avenue for earlier and more accurate diagnosis. This review integrates current evidence on blood biomarkers for DLB, at times extrapolated

α-Synuclein is an essential component of synucleinopathies including Parkinson disease, dementia with Lewy bodies, and multiple system atrophy (MSA). Misfolded-α-synuclein inclusions that contain high levels of Serine-129 phosphorylated (pS129-α-syn) are key diagnostic markers. Skin biopsies are a promising peripheral tissue for in vivo detection of aggregates using immunofluorescence staining. Several primary antibodies target pS129-α-syn but their diagnostic reliability remains uncertain. Common practice relies on clones EP1536Y and 81A without antigen retrieval; however, recent findings hav

Cycloaddition, as a sound strategy for high-value utilization of carbon dioxide (CO2), has been long pursued, wherein the challenging substrate activation process is a top priority for devising novel heterogeneous catalysts. In this study, a guanidine-based ionic liquid tethering -NH2 groups was designed and integrated with chromium (III) terephthalate (MIL-101(Cr)) through the coordination with unsaturated Cr3+ centers. The developed [NH2TMG]Br@MIL-101(Cr) (TMG represents tetramethylguanidine) decorated with plentiful basic functional groups created a fast channel for the capturing and bindin

Carbon dioxide (CO2) detection is indispensable for monitoring climate change, ensuring air quality, managing industrial processes, and safeguarding human health. Nevertheless, the chemical inertness and stability of CO2 pose significant challenges in advancing detection technologies in practical applications. In order to overcome these challenges, nanoscale MOF-74 metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) functionalized with alkali metals (Li, Na, and K) have been synthesized for the effective detection of the CO2 gas. The sensing results indicate that the Li-Mg-MOF-74-based quartz crystal microbalance

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a major greenhouse gas that poses serious environmental and health risks. Converting CO2 into valuable chemicals or fuels offers a sustainable solution to reducing fossil fuel dependence. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are efficient catalysts in CO2 cycloaddition due to their porosity, nitrogen-rich ligands, and dual Lewis acid-base active sites, enhancing catalytic efficiency and enabling efficient CO2 utilization. Therefore, we designed a stable microporous MOF with a nitrogen-rich ligand. This activated MOF (1') demonstrates exceptional stability and high surface ar

The cycloaddition of carbon dioxide (CO2) with aziridines represents a promising approach to produce high-value-added industrial products and offer potential for mitigating CO2-related global warming issues. However, high temperature and/or high pressure are required for traditional thermally driven cycloaddition of CO2 with aziridines by employing so-far reported catalysts, and more efficient catalysts need to be developed for mild procedures. Herein, we construct three zinc porphyrin-based covalent triazine frameworks (ZnDBP-CTFs), including ZnHDBP-CTF and halogen-substituted ZnDBP-CTFs (ZnC

The periphery surrounding oxide-supported metal nanoparticles plays a crucial role in many catalytic reactions that exhibit strong metal-oxide promotional effects. Engineering this catalytically active periphery, where kinetically relevant surface intermediates are efficiently turned over, offers a pathway to optimized performance, yet it remains challenging due to the need for precise control over nanospatial catalyst features. Herein, we address this subject for the relevant case of methanol synthesis by CO2 hydrogenation on Cu/ZrO2 catalysts. The methanol synthesis rate reaches a maximum at

The methanol oxidation reaction serves as a representative model for multistep catalytic processes involving diverse intermediates. Catalyst design strategies that spatially arrange discrete active sites, analogous to relay runners, facilitate the sequential activation of reaction steps, thereby enhancing overall catalytic efficiency compared to single-site catalysts. This approach effectively decouples complex reaction networks into a sequence of coordinated elementary steps, thereby enhancing the production efficiency of the target products. Here, we propose a relay catalysis paradigm throug

Highly efficient molecular oxygen activation over transition metal oxides toward catalytic abatement of aromatic volatile organic compounds (AVOCs) is possible yet challenging due to the easily deactivated surface oxygen vacancy (VO). Herein, dynamic Mn-VO associates were crafted onto the Mn-incorporated CeO2 mesocrystal (Mn/meso-CeO2) surface with Mn substituting a Ce atom through an easy-to-handle precipitation strategy. Experiments and theoretical calculation demonstrated that the asymmetric surface Mn-O-Ce configuration induced electron delivery from the low-valent Mn to adjacent Ce, desta

The construction of stereogenic S(VI) centers remains a formidable challenge in asymmetric catalysis, despite incremental advances. The enantioselective transformation of racemic sulfonimidoyl chlorides is rarely described for forming chiral S(VI)─O bonds and limited to covalent organocatalytic manners. Herein, we report the first chiral Lewis acid catalyzed asymmetric nucleophilic substitution of sulfonimidoyl chlorides, using 2-hydroxypyridines as nucleophiles, affording sulfur(VI)-stereogenic chiral sulfonimidate esters with good yields (up to 94% yield), excellent chemoselectivities (O-fun

Flavodiiron NO reductases (FNORs) are important enzymes in microbial pathogenesis, as they equip microbes with resistance to the human immune defense agent nitric oxide (NO). Despite many efforts, intermediates that would provide insight into how the non-heme diiron active sites of FNORs reduce NO to N2O could not be identified. Computations predict that iron-hyponitrite complexes are the key species, leading from NO to N2O. However, the coordination chemistry of non-heme iron centers with hyponitrite is largely unknown. In this study, we report the reactivity of two non-heme iron complexes wi
