The Toxicity of Eichhornia crassipes Fractionated Extracts against Aphis craccivora and Its Safety in Albino Rats.

Eichhornia crassipes were evaluated in order to investigate the insecticidal activity towards Aphis craccivora adults. The LC50 values were promising and reflected the bio-efficacy of the tested extracts (39 and 42 mg/L), respectively, and reduced the fecundity markedly. Using GC/MS analysis, the major components were n-hexadecanoic, linolenic, hexadecenoic, myristic, stearic acids, linolelaidic acid, methyl ester and some terpenoids, alkaloids, and hydrocarbons. A safety assessment of non-target organisms is essential for the development of new pesticides. In order to guide the rational use o

Soybean polar lipids differently impact adipose tissue inflammation and the endotoxin transporters LBP and sCD14 in flaxseed vs. palm oil-rich diets.

Obesity and type 2 diabetes are nutritional pathologies, characterized by a subclinical inflammatory state. Endotoxins are now well recognized as an important factor implicated in the onset and maintain of this inflammatory state during fat digestion in high-fat diet. As a preventive strategy, lipid formulation could be optimized to limit these phenomena, notably regarding fatty acid profile and PL emulsifier content. Little is known about soybean polar lipid (SPL) consumption associated to oils rich in saturated FA vs. anti-inflammatory omega-3 FA such as α-linolenic acid on inflammation and

Uncovering novel endocannabinoidome-gut microbiome-brain axis-based therapeutic targets in a Fragile X Syndrome mouse model.

BACKGROUND: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition associated with increased risk of psychiatric, gastrointestinal, and metabolic comorbidities. Recent studies highlight the bidirectional role of the gut microbiome (GM) and endocannabinoidome (eCBome)-axis in the gut-brain axis, suggesting its therapeutic potential for ASD and comorbidities. METHODS: We investigated the eCBome-GM-brain axis in the Fragile X Messenger Ribonucleoprotein 1 (Fmr1-/y) mouse model, known as a genetic model of ASD, to identify therapeutic targets. Fecal GM composition was analysed by 16S rD

The dual face of microglia (M1/M2) as a potential target in the protective effect of nutraceuticals against neurodegenerative diseases.

The pathophysiology of different neurodegenerative illnesses is significantly influenced by the polarization regulation of microglia and macrophages. Traditional classifications of macrophage phenotypes include the pro-inflammatory M1 and the anti-inflammatory M2 phenotypes. Numerous studies demonstrated dynamic non-coding RNA modifications, which are catalyzed by microglia-induced neuroinflammation. Different nutraceuticals focus on the polarization of M1/M2 phenotypes of microglia and macrophages, offering a potent defense against neurodegeneration. Caeminaxin A, curcumin, aromatic-turmerone

Phenome-wide association studies on cardiovascular health and fatty acids considering phenotype quality control practices for epidemiological data.

Phenome-wide association studies (PheWAS) allow agnostic investigation of common genetic variants in relation to a variety of phenotypes but preserving the power of PheWAS requires careful phenotypic quality control (QC) procedures. While QC of genetic data is well-defined, no established QC practices exist for multi-phenotypic data. Manually imposing sample size restrictions, identifying variable types/distributions, and locating problems such as missing data or outliers is arduous in large, multivariate datasets. In this paper, we perform two PheWAS on epidemiological data and, utilizing the

Phytohormones: Heart of plants' signaling network under biotic, abiotic, and climate change stresses.

Industrialization has made the world increasingly unstable, subjecting plants to various constraints. As a consequence, plants are constantly experiencing biological, environmental, and climatic constraints, necessitating defense mechanisms to ensure their survival. Plants are vulnerable to various biotic factors, including insects, pathogens (bacterial, fungal, viral, and nematodes), weeds, and herbivores. They also face different abiotic and climate change challenges such as drought (regulated by genes like GH3, DREB, ZIFL1;3, etc), salinity, heavy metals, metalloids, ultraviolet radiations

Quantitative lipidomics reveals the changes of lipids and antioxidant capacity in egg yolk from laying hens with fatty liver hemorrhagic syndrome.

In laying hens, fatty liver hemorrhagic syndrome (FLHS) is a common metabolic disorder, which can affect egg production and nutritional value. However, the impact of FLHS on the lipid content in egg yolks was not clear. In this study, FLHS model was induced by using high-energy low-protein diet, and the egg quality was evaluated. Egg yolk lipids were quantitatively analyzed by using ultra-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry combined with multivariate statistical analysis. Gene expressions of the lipoprotein were determined by qRT-PCR and antioxidant capacity of the egg yolk wer

Human cerebrospinal fluid fatty acid levels differ between supernatant fluid and brain-derived nanoparticle fractions, and are altered in Alzheimer's disease.

BACKGROUND: Although saturated (SAFA), monounsaturated (MUFA), and polyunsaturated (PUFA) fatty acids are important structural components of neuronal membranes and precursors of signaling molecules, knowledge of their metabolism in Alzheimer's disease (AD) is limited. Based on recent discovery that lipids in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) are distributed in both brain-derived nanoparticles (NP) and supernatant fluid (SF), we hypothesized that fatty acid (FA) abundance and distribution into these compartments is altered in early AD pathology. METHODOLOGY AND FINDINGS: We assayed the FA composition

Maternal Diet Enrichment in n-3 Long-Chain Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids during Pregnancy and Lactation Improves Their Transfer from the Mother to the Offspring and Counterbalances High-Fat Diet-Induced Alterations in a Sex-Dependent Manner in Rats.

BACKGROUND: Low birth weight (LBW) increases the risk of developing metabolic disorders in adulthood and reduces fatty acid (FA) brain accretion in offspring in rodent models. As milk composition is partially influenced by maternal diet, it is conceivable to act on maternal diet to improve FA brain accretion and development in offspring. OBJECTIVES: The study aimed to evaluate the impact of n-3 long-chain polyunsaturated FA (LCPUFA) deficiency or enrichment in the maternal diet during gestation and lactation on maternal diet on milk composition, offspring brain lipids, and the potential to co

Dietary Schizochytrium algal powder is an effective strategy to develop docosahexaenoic acid-enriched eggs in Chinese yellow-feathered laying quails.

Although docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) enrichment in eggs has been extensively studied in laying hens, research on DHA-fortified eggs in quails remains limited. This study evaluated the effects of graded levels of Schizochytrium algae powder (SAP) on production performance, egg quality, egg DHA enrichment and fatty acid composition, and related gene expression responsible for DHA absorption and transport in yellow-feathered laying quails. A total of 960 birds were randomly assigned to four dietary groups (0%, 0.4%, 0.8%, or 1.2% SAP) for an eight-week trial, with each group consisting of six repl

Metabolome × Microbiome Changes Associated with a Diet-Induced Reduction in Hepatic Fat among Adolescent Boys.

Dietary sugar reduction is one therapeutic strategy for improving nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and the underlying mechanisms for this effect warrant further investigation. Here, we employed metabolomics and metagenomics to examine systemic biological adaptations associated with dietary sugar restriction and (subsequent) hepatic fat reductions in youth with NAFLD. Data/samples were from a randomized controlled trial in adolescent boys (11-16 years, mean ± SD: 13.0 ± 1.9 years) with biopsy-proven NAFLD who were either provided a low free-sugar diet (LFSD) (n = 20) or consumed their
