In summary, Aicardi syndrome is defined by its tetrad of infantile spasms, agenesis of the corpus callosum, mental retardation, and chorioretinal lacunae. We report a case of Aicardi syndrome with associated cleft lip and palate. This is an infrequent finding that is present in approximately 3 percent of reported cases. Plastic surgeons should be aware of this association when treating patients with cleft lip and palate.

METHODS: This multicenter study evaluated the association of 9 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) in AXIN2 and CDH1, representing genes consistently altered in breast and gastric tumors, with NSCL ± P in 223 trios (father, mother and patient with NSCL ± P) by transmission disequilibrium test (TDT).

BACKGROUND: Continuous intra-arterial (IA) administration of peplomycin (PEP) through a tumor-feeding artery is one of the most effective treatments for cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) in cosmetic areas.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: In order to determine the effective and safe dose of PEP and the curative rate of IA-PEP, we retrospectively investigated a case series of 24 patients with cSCC on the lips who were treated with IA-PEP.

Carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma (CXPA) is a rare salivary gland malignancy most often reported within the parotid gland. Of the salivary gland tumours that occur within the minor salivary glands at least 50% are reported to be malignant. This proves to be inaccurate when describing salivary gland tumours within the upper lip which are usually benign. A Medline search of the English language literature yields only one case report of a CXPA located within the upper lip. The authors present a second case report of CXPA within the upper lip and a review of its pathologic features and management.

F-18 FDG PET/CT is used to evaluate head and neck malignancies, including salivary gland tumors. We describe the FDG PET/CT features of a submandibular gland oncocytoma. An 85-year-old patient with small cell cancer of the lung and a history of squamous cell carcinoma of the lower lip was evaluated with FDG PET/CT. There was an intensely hypermetabolic left submandibular gland lesion that was suspected for a metastasis. Ultrasound-guided fine needle aspirate of the lesion proved to be a submandibular gland oncocytoma.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the burden of illness--length of stay (LOS), total charges, and discharge disposition--among cancers of the lip, oral cavity and pharynx (CLOP) patients with and without palliative care (PC) referral.
