Road traffic delays in commuting workplace and musculoskeletal health among sedentary workers: A cross-sectional study in Dhaka city.

OBJECTIVES: Despite previous research aimed at identifying factors linked to musculoskeletal health issues, there was no evidence about the relationship between road traffic delays (RTDs) and musculoskeletal health in sedentary employees. As a result, the aim of our research was to understand such a correlation among bank employees in Dhaka, Bangladesh. METHODS: A cross-sectional analysis was conducted with bank employees who worked in sedentary settings. The Eriksen subjective health complaints scale was used to measure the eight items of musculoskeletal health complaints (MHCs), and RTDs we

Enhancing cadaver preparation protocol to reduce bacterial contamination in musculoskeletal allografts: a comparative study of battlefield fatalities and general population donors.

Musculoskeletal allografts are becoming increasingly essential in orthopaedic and reconstructive surgery. A significant source of these allografts is tissues retrieved from deceased donors. While contributing substantially to the pool of allografts, these tissues are at increased risk of bacterial contamination. This risk is further amplified when tissues are procured from field casualties. In this study, we performed a side-by-side retrospective comparison of contamination rates in tissues retrieved from the general population and battlefield mortalities, representing field casualties. The Emerging Role of UCHL1 in Neurological and Musculoskeletal Diseases.

Ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolase L1 (UCHL1) is a highly conserved deubiquitinating enzyme that has transitioned from being viewed as a "brain-specific" protein to a global regulator of cellular proteostasis and signal transduction. As a key component of the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS), UCHL1 maintains the intracellular free ubiquitin pool through its C-terminal hydrolase activity, while also exhibiting atypical ligase-like functions and acting as a molecular scaffold for signaling complexes. Beyond its classical role in neurons, increasing evidence suggests that UCHL1 participates in diver

Musculoskeletal Anatomy Education: A Survey of North American Medical Programs.

Postgraduate data reveal that most physicians lack adequate anatomical knowledge and clinical confidence when practicing musculoskeletal (MSK) medicine. Curricular data from nationally accredited medical programs clearly indicate that the total time dedicated to gross anatomy instruction has decreased over recent decades. However, little information is available regarding the MSK anatomy learning environment across accredited medical programs in North America. The purpose of this study was to document the current state of preclinical MSK anatomy education across North American medical programs

Thoroughbreds deemed to be most at risk by inertial measurement unit sensors suffered a fatal musculoskeletal injury at a higher rate than other racehorses.

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether screening of racing Thoroughbreds with accelerometer-based inertial measurement unit sensors and a specifically trained algorithm identified horses most at risk for fatal musculoskeletal injury (FMI) and whether age, gender, race distance, and track surface were associated with increased risk. METHODS: Stride data from 28,481 races by 11,834 Thoroughbreds from July 25, 2021, until May 4, 2024, were assigned an algorithm-based risk score from 1 to 6 (6 = greatest risk). Logistic regression models examined the association between incidence of fatal injuries and r

Impacting the rugby tackle: risk factors and mechanisms for concussion and musculoskeletal tackle-related injury - a systematic review and Delphi consensus to inform intervention strategies for risk reduction.

To (1) systematically review the literature to identify which match-related risk factors and mechanisms of rugby tackle events result in musculoskeletal injury, concussion, head injury assessments, and head impacts or head accelerations; and (2) identify the perceived importance and feasibility of potential intervention strategies for tackle-related injury reduction in the rugby codes.A systematic search was performed using Preferred Reporting Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Risk factors/mechanisms associated with tackle injuries across the rugby codes were extracted. After ex

CSI and Musculoskeletal Pain: Clinical Validity and Neurophysiological Implications.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Chronic pain affects about 20% of adults worldwide, severely impacting quality of life and functioning. Many chronic pain syndromes share symptoms such as fatigue, poor sleep, anxiety, and depression, suggesting a common mechanism. Central sensitization, an abnormal amplification of pain by the nervous system, is considered a key underlying factor. Assessment tools like the Central Sensitization Inventory (CSI) and laser-evoked potentials (LEPs) may improve diagnosis and guide targeted treatment strategies. This review evaluates the validity of the CSI for assessing central

Protocol for preparing formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded musculoskeletal tissue samples from mice for spatial transcriptomics.

Here, we present a protocol for using spatial transcriptomics in bone and multi-tissue musculoskeletal formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) samples from mice. We describe steps for tissue harvesting, sample preparation, paraffin embedding, and FFPE sample selection. We detail procedures for sectioning and placement on spatial slides prior to imaging, decrosslinking, library preparation, and final analyses of the sequencing data. The complete protocol takes ca. 18 days for mouse femora with adjacent muscle; of this time, >50% is required for mineralized tissue decalcification. For complete d

Early Results of Orthopaedic Trauma and Anemia: Conservative Versus Liberal Transfusion Strategy.

INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this study was to determine whether it is safe to use a conservative packed red blood cell transfusion hemoglobin threshold (5.5 g/dL) compared with a liberal transfusion threshold (7.0 g/dL) for asymptomatic patients with musculoskeletal-injured trauma out of the initial resuscitative period. METHODS: This was a multicenter, prospective, nonblinded, randomized study done at three level 1 trauma centers. One hundred patients were enrolled. One patient was inappropriately enrolled, withdrawn from the study, and excluded from analysis leaving 99 patients (49 liberal

Central Sensitization in Musculoskeletal Pain: Lost in Translation?

Central sensitization is a physiological mechanism associated with enhanced sensitivity and pain responses. At present, central sensitization cannot be determined directly in humans, but certain signs and symptoms may be suggestive of it. Although central sensitization has received increasing attention in the clinical literature, there is a risk that certain distinctions are being lost. This paper summarizes current knowledge of the physiology of central sensitization and its possible manifestations in patients, in order to inform a debate about the relevance of central sensitization for physi

Intraneural hemangioma in Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome: role of musculo-skeletal ultrasound in diagnosis-case report and review of the literature.

Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome (KTS) is a rare congenital disorder with an incidence of 1 in 100,000. It is characterized by a triad of capillary malformations (hemangiomas) or port-wine stains, venous varicosities, and bony- or soft-tissue hypertrophy. The capillary malformation is usually confined to a single extremity, usually a lower limb. The disease can lead to various morbidities, such as bleeding, deep vein thrombosis, venous ulcers, and embolic complications. We report a case of an 11-year-old girl who presented with the three classical symptoms of KTS, with port-wine stains in the left l

Anatomical and clinical aspects of Klinefelter's syndrome.

Klinefelter's syndrome, the most common sex disorder associated with chromosomal aberrations, is characterized by a plethora of clinical features. Parameters for diagnosis of the syndrome are constantly expanding as new anatomical and hormonal abnormalities are noted, yet Klinefelter's remains underdiagnosed and underreported. This review outlines the key anatomical characteristics associated with the syndrome, which are currently used for clinical diagnosis, or may provide means for improving diagnosis in the future. Evaluating bone marrow oedema patterns in musculoskeletal injury.

MRI is a common tool in the evaluation of musculoskeletal injury that allows the clinician to pinpoint specific pathologies. The patient's history and physical exam play a critical role in the diagnosis of sports injuries, however, complementary imaging can play an important role in determining the nature and extent of injury. With the widespread use of MRI, attention has focused on the signals generated following injury. In particular, bone marrow oedema (BME) patterns can be used to aid in the diagnosis of musculoskeletal injury. In this pictorial essay, the authors will demonstrate common p

Etiological musculo-skeletal factor in focal dystonia in a musician's hand: A case study of the right hand of a guitarist.

A case study is presented in which a focal hand dystonia seems to have developed in the right hand of a classical guitarist as a result of a neuromuscular peripheral defect caused by trauma. The trauma was a near total perforation of the first web space by a splinter. Healing was uneventful without apparent functional complications. Two years later the patient noticed difficulties in extending the index in playing, for which he received various unsuccessful treatments during seven years. However, we found more severe dystonic symptoms (cocontractions) in the thumb than in the index during play
