RATIONALE: Nasopharyngeal papillary adenocarcinoma is a region-specific tumor originating from the nasopharyngeal surface epithelium. Owing to its rarity, more attention has been paid to its clinicopathologic features, while little effort has been made to study the gene abnormalities that drive this tumor. We describe the first case of nasopharyngeal papillary adenocarcinoma harboring a fusion of ROS1 with GOPC.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 22-year-old female patient was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal papillary adenocarcinoma in our hospital, and she had right nasal obstruction for more than 6 months.

Cranial chordoma is a rare neoplasm that is challenging to both diagnose and manage. We present our experience in treating a case of clival chordoma mimicking a nasopharyngeal mass without any signs of cranial deficits or intracranial insult. Management was comprised of endoscopic transnasal debulking surgery followed by radiotherapy. However, we failed to achieve an oncologic outcome due to the development of lethal central nervous system and respiratory infections 1 month after the surgery.

The nasopharyngeal swab is currently the main testing method used to diagnose COVID-19. The principle is to collect respiratory cells infected by the virus and to use the RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription - Polymerase Chain Reaction) technique to detect the RNA of the virus. The false negative rate is high, about 30%, which can mainly be explained by an incorrect execution of the technique may increase the false negative rate and decrease the test's sensitivity. The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in worldwide shortages of nasopharyngeal swabs required for sample collection. While the shortages are becoming acute due to supply chain disruptions, the demand for testing has increased both as a prerequisite to lifting restrictions and in preparation for the second wave. One of the potential solutions to this crisis is the development of 3D printed nasopharyngeal swabs that behave like traditional swabs. However, the opportunity to digitally conceive and fabricate swabs allows for design improvements that can potentially reduce patient pain and discomfort.
