Linear nevus sebaceous syndrome (LNSS) is a rare neurocutaneous syndrome part of the epidermal nevus syndromes group, characterized by the presence of sebaceous nevi and other extracutaneous lesions genetically related to RAS family gene mutations. Sialadenoma papilliferum (SP) is a rare benign intraoral neoplasm which is usually BRAF or HRAS mutated. We report a case of a young female girl diagnosed with a LNSS who developed a SP which had a KRAS mutation. This is the first case of SP with a KRAS mutation in the context of a LNSS.

Two patients, a 38-year-old woman and, a 74-year-old man, had ulceronodular basal cell carcinoma at the lower eyelid margin, directly opposite a nodular intradermal nevus at the upper lid margin. Both patients had the nevi for decades and the tumors for 2 and 3 years, respectively. The size of the tumors were 9 × 4 mm and 10 × 15 mm. When the eyelids were closed, the nevus corresponded to the ulcerated tumor cavity in both cases. The lesions were excised, and the defects were repaired. It is well-established that chronic mechanical irritation can increase sensitivity to epidermal carcinogenesi…

Becker's nevus (BN) is a unilateral epidermal hamartoma that presents as a hyperpigmented and hypertrichotic lesion, typically appearing during adolescence. While BN frequently occurs on the upper trunk and proximal upper limbs, its manifestation on the lower limb is rare. Dermoscopy serves as a helpful diagnostic tool alongside clinical examination, revealing features such as pigment networks, hypertrophic follicles, and distinct skin furrows. We presented a case of a 17-year-old boy with typical dermoscopic features of BN located on the lower extremity. Although there is no definitive treatm…

A congenital melanocytic nevus is a benign melanocyte proliferation, that may be complicated by malignant transformation. We are reporting a three-year-old girl, who had a giant congenital melanocytic nevus on her back, that was treated by serial surgical excisions with tissue expander insertion. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of congenital melanocytic nevus with ganglioneuroma. Out of approximately 250 case reports on congenital melanocytic nevus, we identified only two reports of medium/large congenital melanocytic nevus with cutaneous ganglioneuroma. Due to the potent…

Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a rare genetic disease with neurocutaneous manifestations, often presenting initially to the dermatology clinic. We report a cohort of neonates who presented with a novel finding of white epidermal nevus and were eventually diagnosed with TSC. White epidermal nevus may be yet another dermatological finding that may aid in the early diagnosis of TSC.

Becker's nevus, also known as Becker's melanosis or Becker's pigmentary hamartoma, is a concurrent melanosis first described by S. William Becker. It is a type of acquired hyperpigmentation characterized by well-defined, unilateral lesions with regular borders. It is associated with hypertrichosis and hyperpigmented brownish patches with a mean diameter of 15 cm. The shoulder, scapular area, and upper arms are the most commonly affected areas, but it can occur on any area of the body, including the forehead, face, neck, lower trunk, extremities, and buttocks. The lesion usually appears around …

Blue nevi, which are characterized by collections of pigment-producing melanocytes in the dermis, have a variety of clinicopathological characteristics. Plaque-type blue nevus (PTBN) is a variant of blue nevi. PTBN presents at birth or arises in early childhood, and it shows a combination of the features found in common blue nevus and cellular blue nevus. It is typically found on the dorsal surface of the hands and feet or on the head and neck, and it is usually benign and stable over time. However, reports have occasionally described malignant melanomas developing in or associated with a PTBN…

Spitz tumors are notoriously characterized by a high propensity to nodal involvement with a morphologically malignant (intraparenchymal) pattern but with little or no tendency toward further spread. We describe a case of spindle cell Spitz neoplasm removed from the thigh in a 34-year-old woman and initially diagnosed as "Spitzoid melanoma;" the sentinel node was characterized by a morphologically benign pattern of nodal involvement, with prevailingly capsular and septal aggregated of melanocytes showing the same cytomorphological features as the cutaneous tumor. Both the cutaneous and the noda

Cutis verticis gyrata (CVG), characterized by cerebriform overgrowth of the scalp, is rarely observed in congenital melanocytic nevi (CMN). We describe a 13-year-old male with autism and a large CMN of the scalp with numerous satellite nevi whose scalp nevus exhibited evolution with poliosis and CVG. Given the potential association of CVG (independent of CMN) with seizures, neuropsychiatric, and ophthalmologic disorders, and nevus-associated CVG (cerebriform intradermal nevus) with melanoma, multidisciplinary evaluation of CMN patients with CVG is important to guide management and treatment.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the diagnosis and treatment of divided nevus of the penis (DNP) in children.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data on a case of DNP treated by surgical resection and transplantation of free skin graft of the inner preputial plate, and searched PubMed, CNKI and Wanfang database prior to March 2021 for relevant literature, followed by analysis of the clinical characteristics, diagnosis and treatment of DNP.
RESULTS: The free skin graft on the left side of the glans survived well. Postoperative pathology showed the DNP to be a complex pigmented nevus. The …

INTRODUCTION: Scrotal lymphedema is a rare condition, with significant psychological and functional disability. To date, association with giant congenital melanocytic nevus has not been reported.
CASE REPORT: We report a case of a 15-year-old male with a giant congenital nevus associated with giant scrotal lymphedema. Surgical debulking with penoscrotoplasty achieved satisfactory functional and esthetic results.
CONCLUSIONS: Early diagnosis and surgical intervention should be advocated for congenital causes of large scrotal swelling.

BACKGROUND: Treatment of nevus sebaceus (NS) on the scalp is usually surgical excision, but the optimal timing is debatable. The scalp presents significant challenges to the reconstructive surgeon because the lack of elasticity of the scalp makes the repair of defects difficult.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the optimal timing for surgical excision of NS on the scalp through postoperative outcomes.
METHODS: The authors retrospectively reviewed the postoperative cosmetic results of patients with a follow-up period of 12 to 15 months. The variables analyzed were patient d…

BACKGROUND: Linear nevus sebaceous syndrome (LNSS) is a rare genetic disease characterized by large linear sebaceous nevus typically on the face, scalp, or neck. LNSS could be accompanied by multisystem disorders including the central nervous system. Herein, we report gene mutational profile via whole exome sequencing of both lesional and non-lesional skin samples in a LNSS patient.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 17-year-old girl presented with multisystem abnormalities, including large skin lesions, ocular disorders, abnormal bone development and neurological symptoms. A diagnosis of LNSS was establis…

We present the clinical and pathological aspects of a patient diagnosed with a very rare tumor, a blue nevus-like melanoma of the uterine cervix. The patient turned to our Service for a second opinion regarding a cervical polyp causing vaginal bleeding, polyp which has been excised in another Hospital and interpreted initially as a pleomorphic sarcoma. In the presentation, we emphasize upon the stages of solving a difficult diagnosis, pathological description and treatment of these rare, aggressive tumors with poor prognosis, which represent the fundamental precondition in order to formulate t…

BACKGROUND: Localized lumbosacral hypertrichosis presenting as faun tail nevus often represents an underlying spinal occult or overt abnormality. This study was undertaken to study these abnormalities and assess their treatment outcome with Intense Pulse Light (IPL) for permanent hair reduction.
METHODS: Patients reporting with localized spinal hypertrichosis underwent clinical examination and radio imaging. Symptomatic neurological deficit underwent definitive neurosurgical intervention (if indicated) before hair removal. IPL was administered as 30 J/cm2 four weekly for six sessions. Treatme…

Germline mutations in CDKN2A are frequently identified among melanoma kindreds and are associated with increased atypical nevus counts. However, a clear relationship between pathogenic CDKN2A mutation carriage and other nevus phenotypes including counts of common acquired nevi has not yet been established. Using data from GenoMEL, we investigated the relationships between CDKN2A mutation carriage and 2-mm, 5-mm, and atypical nevus counts among blood-related members of melanoma families. Compared with individuals without a pathogenic mutation, those who carried one had an overall higher prevale…

A 40-year-old woman presented with a pigmented nodule on a previously existing yellowish, verrucous plaque on the scalp. The histological diagnosis was consistent with a pigmented trichoblastoma developed within a sebaceous nevus (SN). A multigene hotspot mutational profiling of the BRAF, NRAS, HRAS and KRAS genes was carried out, and a shared G13R HRAS mutation in both the trichoblastoma and the sebaceous nevus components was found. These data support a common molecular landscape of the two lesions.

A blue nevus-like melanoma is a rare melanoma variant arising from or histologically similar to a blue nevus. It can be challenging to distinguish a cellular blue nevus from a blue nevus-like melanoma, particularly in cases of blue nevus-like melanoma lacking a transition from a clearly benign component. We present a case of a 78-year-old man who refused treatment for a previously existing melanoma and subsequently developed a gray nodule near the site of the previous melanoma. After fluorescence in situ hybridization revealed copy number gains in RREB1, this was diagnosed as a blue nevus-like…
