Skin lesions are one of the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) symptoms. Pityriasis rosea (PR) is a mucocutaneous manifestation that can occur following virus infections. Most of the PR lesions after COVID-19 infection were reported in adults. Herein, we report a child with PR lesions, and a literature review on 5 other case reports in children.

RATIONALE: Pityriasis rosea Gibert is an erythematous-papulosquamous dermatosis that frequently occurs in young adults. The etiopathogenesis of PR is still unknown, but is frequently associated with episodes of upper respiratory tract infections. It is likely that a new viral trigger of pityriasis rosea is the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).
PATIENT CONCERNS: We present the case of a female patient in whom the diagnosis of pityriasis rosea led to the investigation and diagnosis of the SARS-CoV-2 infection. The patient presented to the Department of Dermatology fo…

UNLABELLED: Immunophenotyping of inflammatory dermal infiltrates in Malassezia folliculitis (MF) and pityriasis versicolor (PV) lesions is less reported. Immunohistochemistry was performed on 21 MF lesions, 10 PV lesions, and 10 control skin. CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, CD20+, CD68+, and CD117+ cells were increased in MF compared with PV and normal skin (P < 0.01-0.05), while CD3+, CD4+, and CD20+ cells were higher in PV than in normal skin (P < 0.05). Dermal CD1a+ cells were higher only in PV (P < 0.05). Although both cellular and humoral immune responses are involved in pathogenesis of MF and PV, thei…

Pityriasis rosea is a common acute exanthema of unknown aetiology, which causes severe anxiety. In this study, the demographic data of pityriasis rosea patients, who presented to our clinic between 2013 and 2017, were prospectively recorded. The patients with a confirmed pityriasis rosea diagnosis were followed up for 4 years in order to investigate the recurrence rate. Of the clinically suspected patients, having a typical history of pityriasis rosea manifestations, a herald patch, and/or secondary coloured squamous lesions, 400 were confirmed by biopsy to have pityriasis rosea. The 4-year fo…

BACKGROUND: Lymphomatoid drug reactions can mimic endogenous T and B cell lymphoproliferative diseases.
OBJECTIVES: We present a novel form of cutaneous drug reaction with features of pityriasis lichenoides (PL), a recognized form of T cell dyscrasia.
METHODS: Ten cases were studied where a cutaneous eruption exhibiting semblance to PL within a few weeks to months after starting a particular drug.
RESULTS: The patient cohort comprised 7 females and 3 males with the mean age of 60 years. Widely distributederythematous cutaneous lesions were present in 6 cases whereas a more localized distrib…

Pityriasis rubra pilaris is a chronic inflammatory dermatosis of unknown etiology and great clinical variability. It has been divided into six categories. Types III, IV, and V occur in childhood and are distinguished by their clinical presentation, age of onset, and course. We report a 19-year-old male patient with a 2-week history of pruritic, scaling dermatosis of the hands, feet, elbows, and knees. He had no family history of skin disease. On physical examination, we observed circumscribed, reddish-orange, scaling plaques affecting the elbows and knees and a waxy palmoplantar keratoderma. T…

BACKGROUND: Pityriasis versicolor (PV) is a common superficial fungal infection of the skin caused by Malassezia species. The clinical significance of each of these species is not fully understood. M. furfur has long been identified as the causative agent of PV. Several recent studies suggest that M. globosa is most frequently associated with PV.
OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to examine the prevalence of Malassezia species in affected and unaffected skin in Israeli patients with PV using a polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based culture-independent method.
METHODS: Samples were taken f…
