3D-Printed Models to Enhance Dental Anatomy Learning: Students' Perspective.

Mastering tooth morphology is essential for first-year dental students, yet conventional teaching methods may not fully support spatial understanding of tooth anatomical structures. To provide students with an additional visual and tactile learning resource, we incorporated enlarged 3D-printed tooth models into a dental anatomy course at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. Students used the models to identify key anatomical landmarks before transitioning to waxing activities and subsequently provided feedback on their experience. Students generally found the enlarged models helpful

Industrial Printed Circuit Board Surface Defect Dataset for Object Detection.

Surface defect detection of printed circuit boards (PCBs) is critical for quality control in electronic manufacturing. Existing public datasets often rely on synthetic images or are collected under controlled laboratory conditions, and may not fully capture the complex illumination variations and large-scale defect diversity present in real production lines. Here, this Data Descriptor presents PCB-IND, a large-scale real-world dataset directly acquired from an industrial automated optical inspection (AOI) system. The dataset contains 4,789 images covering eight typical surface defect categorie

Inkjet-Printed SiOxNy Barrier Film for Encapsulation of Perovskite Solar Cells.

Thin-film encapsulation is a suitable method for enhancing the environmental stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) against oxygen and moisture. In this work, inkjet printing of perhydropolysilazane (PHPS) solution was first adopted to fabricate silicon oxynitride (SiOxNy) barrier films, which were converted from PHPS via vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) treatment. The transformation process was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Experiment results revealed that multiple thin-layer deposition enables the formation of a more uniform surface as…

A complete 3D-printed multiscale tracheobronchial tree for aerosol deposition assessment.

The complex and multiscale structure of the lung's airways is extremely difficult to mimic experimentally using in vitro models. Here, we 3D-printed using additive manufacturing a model at human scale of the complete tracheobronchial airways from mouth down to the 14th airway generation. By adding a "bending" angle between parent airways and the plane of the daughter airways we successfully created 16 tightly packed airway clusters each spanning generations 4 to 14. This strategy eliminated the need for using support material within the airways, greatly simplifying the printing process. In a p…
