It was the aim of this report to evaluate the laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal hernia repair (TAPP) which has been standardized at our department. Along with the demographic characterisation of 795 patients with 1000 inguinal hernia repairs we report about complications and early recurrences. The patient data were collected prospectively. The rate of follow-up amounted to 79.9% with an average follow-up of 1 year. The complications were divided into intraoperative, minor, major, as well as severe ones. This paper tests the null hypothesis of a zero effect of cesarean section rate on health outcome against the alternative of a positive effect. Using data from 59 hospitals in Sweden from 1988-92, we specify two separate linear regression models for health outcome, one with perinatal mortality, and the other with rate of asphyxia, as dependent variable. We estimate the models by single-year cross-section regressions and as pooled data systems. In a retrospective review of 77 patients with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita, 21 showed involvement of the hip (28%). Between 1957 and 1985, 886 women with Crohn's disease and an intact distal large bowel were seen at St. Mark's Hospital. Ninety of these patients developed a fistula between the vagina and anus or rectum at an average age of 34 years. The long-term clinical outcome is evaluated for 268 patients after chymopapain chemonucleolysis for radicular complaints referrable to documented intervertebral disc disease. Mullerian duct malformations were found in 8% and Asherman syndrome in 4.8% of 537 infertile women undergoing hysterosalpingogram and/or hysteroscopy among 840 consecutive infertile couples evaluated. The prenatal diagnosis of an abdominal wall defect in the fetus has led some obstetricians to recommend delivery by cesarean section in order to avoid trauma to the defect and reduce the risk of dystocia. BACKGROUND: Article 14 of the WHO 'Framework Convention on Tobacco Control' recommends, that all oral healthcare providers provide support for tobacco cessation, to all patients. Despite evidence on the effectiveness of tobacco cessation interventions in dental settings, implementation remains low in most high-burden countries like Pakistan.
