Finding a way in and making it stick: an exploration of chiropractor experiences working in team-oriented elite sport practice settings.

Interprofessional healthcare teams have become the benchmark for optimising athlete health and performance in high-stakes sports. Despite a history of utility as provider partners, chiropractors are currently a relatively underutilised human resource in this rapidly developing and challenging field. Consequently, our study explored the global experiences and distinct perspectives of elite-level career sports chiropractors. Through a qualitative explorative single case study, we purposively sampled and interviewed 15 chiropractors active in elite-level athletic contexts. 'Professional character

Genome and Epigenome Disorders and Male Infertility: Feedback from 15 Years of Clinical and Research Experience.

Infertility affects around 20% of couples of reproductive age; however, in some societies, as many as one-third of couples are unable to conceive. Different factors contribute to the decline of male fertility, such us environmental and professional exposure to endocrine disruptors, oxidative stress, and life habits with the risk of de novo epigenetics dysregulation. Since the fantastic development of new "omes and omics" technologies, the contribution of inherited or de novo genomes and epigenome disorders to male infertility have been further elucidated. Many other techniques have become avai

Building Anatomical Knowledge Competency for PGY-1 Readiness: Design, Implementation and Learner's Perception of A Year 4 Clinical Anatomy Elective.

Persistent gaps in anatomical knowledge among incoming residents have raised concerns about clinical preparedness, especially in surgical and interventional disciplines. Conventional anatomy instruction and limited cadaveric exposure and learning opportunities in medical curricula have prompted calls for innovative, clinically focused anatomical curricular integration in clinical training. This article describes the development, implementation, and impact of a tailored Year 4 Clinical Anatomy Elective in the Department of Clinical Anatomy at Mayo Clinic, designed to reinforce competency in cli

The Healthy Migrant Families Initiative: development of a culturally competent obesity prevention intervention for African migrants.

BACKGROUND: Although obesity among immigrants remains an important area of study given the increasing migrant population in Australia and other developed countries, research on factors amenable to intervention is sparse. The aim of the study was to develop a culturally-competent obesity prevention program for sub-Saharan African (SSA) families with children aged 12-17 years using a community-partnered participatory approach. METHODS: A community-partnered participatory approach that allowed the intervention to be developed in collaborative partnership with communities was used. Three pilot st

Creating a Career Development Path for Young Supply Chain Professionals: Three Case Studies in Benin, Kenya, and South Africa.

Low and middle-income countries (LMICs) continue to have a limited supply of skilled supply chain (SC) management professionals in the public sector. In addition, the SC workforce lacks the competencies demanded by new technologies and markets. Young people may be an untapped resource for the procurement and SC management workforce. We present 3 use cases in which career development paths were created for young SC professionals in Benin, Kenya, and South Africa. In Benin, with advocacy from L'Association des Logisticiens Béninois, the professional body of logisticians, career development oppor

BACKGROUND: Community Access to Palliative Care via Interprofessional Teams Improvement (CAPACITI) is a virtual educational program designed to support primary care providers in delivering a palliative approach to care. This study evaluated whether expert-facilitated sessions result in greater self-rated competency than a self-directed format across three CAPACITI modules: Identification and Assessment, Communication, and Ongoing Management. METHODS: We conducted a randomized controlled trial where 566 interprofessional primary care team members were randomized to facilitated or self-directed

From Observation to Structured Reporting: Development and Preliminary Evaluation of an Online Animal Abuse Reporting System.

Animal abuse and substandard animal care may be difficult to report when members of the public are uncertain about the seriousness of their observations, the competent authority, or the information needed for further assessment. This study aimed to develop and preliminarily evaluate a structured online reporting interface for suspected animal abuse and animal welfare concerns in Hungary. Two public online questionnaires assessed reporting-related knowledge, experiences, and preferences, and a separate professional questionnaire examined the experiences of actors involved in animal protection p

Medical improv as a strategy for creative problem-solving and positive change.

Unsafe staffing, bullying and incivility, and burnout and compassion fatigue are examples of three chronic and pervasive problems that nurses face. At their roots, they involve issues associated with emotional intelligence and communication-related skills, also known as "soft" skills. For nurses to be effective and positive change agents in addressing these and other challenging problems, they must be proficient in such skills and competencies. This article examines the importance of soft skills in addressing key professional and practice-related challenges, and discusses strategies for develo

Model of lymphoma from stochastic analysis.

In this work, the authors introduce a stochastic model of lymphoma. Two clonotypes of T cells of the immune system compete with each other and with other clonotypes for survival stimuli. One of the clonotypes is normal and the other is tumourous. To model the tumourous clonotype the authors include a rate of influx of new naive T cells (descendants of mutated precursor cells) from the thymus. The authors obtain a deterministic approximation to the stochastic model and analyse eight cases of competition between the two clonotypes of T cells. The authors obtain two possible scenarios, depending
