The PRCI study: design of a randomized clinical trial to evaluate a coping intervention for medical waiting periods used by women undergoing a fertility treatment.

BACKGROUND: Many medical situations necessitate a stressful period of waiting for potentially threatening test results. The medical waiting period is often associated with negative anticipatory anxiety and rumination about the outcome of treatment. Few evidence-based self-help coping interventions are available to assist individuals manage these periods. Theory and research suggest that positive reappraisal coping strategies may be particularly useful for this type of unpredictable and uncontrollable stressful context. The objective of this study is to investigate the effects of a Positive Rea

Self-help cognitive behavioural therapy for hot flushes and night sweats during androgen deprivation therapy for prostate cancer: the MANCAN2 randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) causes hot flushes and night sweats (HFNS) and is associated with sleep disturbance, anxiety, low mood and cognitive impairment. We tested self-help cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), when guided by prostate cancer nurse specialist teams, for mitigation of the long-term impact of HFNS, and associated symptoms. METHODS: Prostate cancer patients receiving ADT, with a HFNS Problem Rating Scale ≥2, were randomised (1:1) to treatment as usual (TAU) or CBT + TAU, stratified by centre and treatment intent. CBT was a 4-week self-help intervention with

Effectiveness of internet-based self-help cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) among community adults: A randomized controlled trial.

While research on internet-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) is growing, questions remain regarding its mechanisms and broader benefits beyond reducing insomnia. The present study aims to contribute to the literature by developing, implementing, and evaluating a new internet-based self-help CBT-I among community adults with mild-to-moderate insomnia in Hong Kong. Participants were randomly assigned to either a CBT-I intervention group (n = 179) or a waitlist control group (n = 179). Both groups completed questionnaire measures at baseline (T1), immediately after the inter

Empowering Balochistan's skilled women: Unleashing self-employment potential.

Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs are increasingly recognized as equipping women with essential skills to navigate the dynamic labor market. However, there is limited research on the specific impact of TVET on women's self-employability. This study explores the relationship between TVET participation and self-employability among women in Balochistan, addressing a critical gap in the literature. A mixed-methods approach was utilized, combining quantitative data from 368 current and former female TVET students in Quetta with qualitative insights from in-person inter

Breastfeeding Self-efficacy and Factors Associated with Failure in Breastfeeding among Cesarean Mothers: A Case-control Study.

BACKGROUND: Breastfeeding is being advocated by several groups, including the World Health Organization, because of the favorable effects on the mother and her child. The success of breastfeeding has been challenging for post-cesarean mothers due to several factors that contribute to breastfeeding failure and low breastfeeding self-efficacy. Studies revealed several factors associated with breastfeeding, and it indicates that breastfeeding cesarean mothers are connected with various aspects independently. This study will fill the knowledge gap by collecting data to identify which of these fact

Learning Disabilities and Emotional Intelligence.

The literature is conflicted around the subject of the emotional abilities of individuals with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLDs): While many claim cognitive challenges are associated with emotional difficulties, some suggest emotional and interpersonal abilities are not compromised in such disorders and may help individuals compensate and cope effectively with the challenges they meet in learning environments. Two studies explored differences in emotional intelligence (EI) between young adults with and without SLD. Two samples (matched on gender, approximate age, and program of study; n =
