OBJECTIVE: To compare the safety and efficacy perioperatively between hand-assisted laparoscopic surgery (HALS) and conventional open sigmoidectomy.
METHODS: Prospectively collected data on 115 patients with sigmoid colon cancer between January 2009 to June 2010 were analyzed. There were 62 patients in the HALS group and 53 in the conventional sigmoidectomy group (CS). Patient characteristics, operative parameters, and perioperative outcomes were compared.

BACKGROUND: Only 21.3% of cases of malignant transformation of endometriosis occur at extragonadal pelvic sites. 21 patients with unresectable recurrent adenocarcinoma of the rectum were treated with combined photon-neutron radiation therapy. 40 Gy photon were given to the whole pelvis followed by a boost field of 6.6 or 10 Gy utilizing 14 MeV monoenergetic neutrons.
