Associations between insomnia symptoms and self-reported oral health in 59370 adults.

OBJECTIVES: The associations between insomnia symptoms and oral health have not been studied. We examined the relationships between insomnia symptoms and oral health in a large representative sample of the middle-aged and older adult Indian population. METHODS: 59,370 Indian adults aged ≥ 45 years were included in this study. Multivariable logistic regression was conducted to evaluate the associations of insomnia symptoms with tooth loss, dental cavities, and periodontal disease in the whole sample and within different age subgroups. RESULTS: Individuals reporting insomnia symptoms were more

Walking Speed Is Correlated With the Isokinetic Muscular Strength of the Knee in Patients With Charcot-Marie-Tooth Type 1A.

Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 1A is the most common hereditary neuropathy. Affected individuals have a distal motor deficit, initially affecting the lower limbs and impairing walking performance. Isokinetic dynamometry can be used to objectively assess muscle strength of patients with neuromuscular disorders. No studies have evaluated the effect of muscle strength deficits of knee extensors and flexors on walking parameters for patients with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 1A. The purpose of this study was to determine correlations between the isokinetic muscular strength of knee flexors a

Association between gingivitis, tooth loss and cardiovascular risk: Insights from a 10-year nationwide cohort study of 3.7 million Koreans.

BACKGROUND: While studies have suggested an association between periodontal disease and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, the strength of this association and its specific links to various types of cardiovascular disease have not been thoroughly investigated. This study aimed to examine how gingivitis and tooth loss affect cardiovascular diseases, probing their individual impacts. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was conducted, encompassing 3,779,490 individuals with no history of cardiovascular disease, utilizing data from the National Health Examination and the Korean Nation

Antiresorptive agent-related osteonecrosis of the jaw risk in cancer patients before bone-modifying agent therapy: A retrospective study of 511 patients.

INTRODUCTION: Antiresorptive agent-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (ARONJ) is a serious adverse event associated with therapies for advanced cancer involving bone-modifying agents (BMAs). Although many studies have investigated the risk factors for ARONJ, none have provided sufficient clarifications. We aimed to determine whether there is a correlation between tooth extraction before BMA therapy and the development of ARONJ. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We included 511 patients who were admitted to our department before BMA therapy. The incidence of ARONJ and its risk factors was retrospectively ev

Dental Pathophysiology of Odontogenic Sinusitis: Periodontitis.

Periodontitis is a highly prevalent oral microbial biofilm-driven chronic inflammatory disease. If unmanaged, periodontitis leads to progressive destruction of the ligamentous attachments of teeth to the alveolar bone and resorption of the alveolar bone. It eventually leads to tooth hypermobility and loss. Periodontitis commonly causes overlying maxillary sinus inflammation (mucositis), reflected on radiographic imaging as maxillary sinus mucosal thickening. While uncommon, advanced periodontitis (stage III/IV) or chronic perio-endo lesions can lead to purulent odontogenic sinusitis (ODS). Thi

[Bisphosphonate and osteonecrosis of the jaw.].

Marx first reported avascular osteonecrosis of the jaw(ONJ)in oncology patients who had used high dose intravenous bisphosphonate(BP)at 2003. Ruggiero et al. also reported BP-related ONJ in osteoporosis patients who had used low dose oral BP at 2004. Since tooth extraction was considered one of risk factors for ONJ, discontinuation of BP before and after tooth extraction was recommended as one of preventive strategy for ONJ, especially in osteoporosis patients. However, recent studies showed that discontinuation of BP did not prevent ONJ, but increased the occurrence of adverse events such as

Interobserver variability in radiographic interpretation of pediatric dental diseases: a pilot study.

Interobserver variability in radiographic interpretation of dental disease may be a result of clinical bias, education, training, experience or other factors, and may potentially lead to misdiagnosis of disease. Few studies have investigated variability related to dental specialty. The purpose of this pilot study was to determine interob-server variability in radiographic interpretation of pediatric dental diseases using a small number of observers, consisting of a pedodontist, an orthodontist and an oral radiologist. These specialists interpreted initial radiographic surveys of 200 pediatric

A cascading learning method with SegFormer for radiographic measurement of periodontal bone loss.

OBJECTIVE: Marginal alveolar bone loss is one of the key features of periodontitis and can be observed via panoramic radiographs. This study aimed to establish a cascading learning method with deep learning (DL) for precise radiographic bone loss (RBL) measurements at specific tooth positions. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Through the design of two tasks for tooth position recognition and tooth semantic segmentation using the SegFormer model, specific tooth's crown, intrabony portion, and suprabony portion of the roots were obtained. The RBL was subsequently measured by length through these three ar

Wisdom teeth extraction in a patient with moyamoya disease.

Moyamoya disease is a rare neurovascular disorder that involves constriction of certain arteries in the brain. In patients with moyamoya disease, it is very important to prevent cerebral ischemic attacks and intracerebral bleeding caused by fluctuating blood pressure and increased respiration. A 40-year-old woman with moyamoya disease was scheduled for extraction of her right upper and lower impacted wisdom teeth. Her lower impacted wisdom tooth was situated close to the inferior alveolar nerve. We decided to continue her oral antiplatelet therapy and planned intravenous sedation with analgesi

Eruption cysts: retrospective clinical study of 36 cases.

The eruption cyst is a lesion associated with an erupting tooth. It appears as a transparent, bluish, blue or blue-black swelling of the alveolar mucosa, over a temporal or permanent tooth in eruption. The analysis of the thirty-six eruption cysts cases studied, corresponding to twenty-seven patients, revealed that their most frequent location is in the maxillary permanent dentition, and that they mostly occur in a single presentation, and in an age-range of between five and nine years. Six cases out of the twenty-seven patients studied showed the characteristic of presenting two or more erupt

Lithium chloride promotes osteogenesis and suppresses apoptosis during orthodontic tooth movement in osteoporotic model via regulating autophagy.

Osteoporosis is a widely distributed disease that may cause complications such as accelerated tooth movement, bone resorption, and tooth loss during orthodontic treatment. Promoting bone formation and reducing bone resorption are strategies for controlling these complications. For several decades, the autophagy inducer lithium chloride (LiCl) has been explored for bipolar . In this study, we investigated the autophagy-promoting effect of LiCl on bone remodeling under osteoporotic conditions during tooth movement. Ovariectomy was used to induce osteoporosis status in vivo. The results showed th
