The objective of the present study was to investigate the incidence, clinical findings, diagnosis and treatment of evaginated teeth with pulpal involvement. Five hundred and three cases requiring endodontically treated premolars were studied at Kaohsiung Medical College Hospital. We observed 23 (4.6%) evaginated teeth with pulpal involvement out of the 503 samples studied here. Of the 23 teeth, mandibular second premolars comprise the largest portion. Clinically, all tubercles of pulpally involved evaginated teeth had been worn down by attrition and all these teeth showed negative response in

Osteoporosis and periodontitis are diseases which affect a large number of women and men, with incidence increasing with advancing age. Osteopenia is a reduction in bone mass due to an imbalance between bone resorption and formation, favoring resorption, resulting in demineralization and leading to osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a disease characterized by low bone mass and fragility and a consequent increase in fracture risk. Periodontitis is characterized by inflammation of the supporting tissues of the teeth, resulting in resorption of the alveolar bone as well as loss of the soft tissue atta

This article reviews the management of mandibular body fractures in young children. Treatment principles of this fracture type differ from that of adults due to concerns regarding mandibular growth processes and dentition development. The goal of this fracture treatment is to restore the underlying bony architecture to its preinjury position in a stable fashion as non-invasively as possible and with minimal residual esthetic and functional impairment. The management of mandibular body fractures in children depends on the fracture type and the stage of skeletal and dental development; treatment

OBJECTIVE: The current study aimed to evaluate the effects of different combinations of chemical and mechanical challenges on the failure load, failure mode and composition of the resulting fracture surfaces of resin-composite restorations.
METHODS: Three resin composites were used to fill dentin disks (2 mm inner diameter, 5 mm outer diameter, and 2 mm thick) made from bovine incisor roots. The model restorations, half of which were preconditioned with a low-pH buffer (48 h under pH 4.5), were subjected to diametral compression with either a monotonically increasing load (fast fracture) or a

Craniomaxillofacial trauma management has continued to improve and evolve as a result of advances in technology and scientific inquiry. Controversies exist where there is little evidence-based literature to guide treatment in frontal sinus management, rigid versus absorbable fixation, open versus closed treatment of mandibular condyle fractures, extraction of teeth in the line of fracture, optimal timing for repair of mandible fractures, antibiotic use for facial wounds and fractures, and reconstructive materials in orbital fracture reconstruction. This article reviews current literature to re

There are several variables which must be considered before initiating endodontic treatment, including assessing the feasibility of endodontic treatment, addressing past, present and future periodontal concerns, determining the restorability of the tooth, and detecting root fractures. If these parameters are not carefully evaluated, then short- or long-term endodontic success may be questionable. Endodontic prognosis assessment is often subjective, based on objective finding, but ultimately determined by the experience of the operator. Although dentists must rely upon evidence-based research t

BACKGROUND: Dental traumas are highly prevalent lesions in primary teeth, but crown-root fractures are seldom observed in primary molars. When trauma is sustained to the chin, the posterior primary teeth are at increased risk of trauma. The treatment of fractured teeth can be complicated, sometimes because of difficulties with the final restoration.
CASE REPORT: A 4-year-old girl was referred to a Specialty Dental clinic by a general dental practitioner with complaints of pain in her left mandibular posterior teeth region while biting. History revealed that she had fallen ten days before whil
