Neutralization of TNF or disruption of TNF-R1 leads to fatal Mycobacterium bovis BCG infection. Here we used TNF-LT-alpha-deficient mice to test whether a complete disruption of TNF and LT-alpha reduces further host resistance to BCG infection. We report herein the finding of carbon-laden macrophages in four cytological preparations of pleural fluid from two crack smokers. Limited research has been conducted on the prevalence and factors associated with extended drug-susceptible tuberculosis (TB) treatment. A retrospective study enrolled drug-susceptible TB patients (January 2018 to December 2020) from a hospital's registry to analyze prevalence, reasons, and factors for extended treatment (≥ 9 months) compared with standard course. An increasing number of internationally adopted children is coming to Italy, and their immunization status is unknown. We evaluated the immunization status of such children in Palermo, Italy. We searched for the presence of a BCG scar in 88 children, 49 boys and 39 girls (mean age 76+/-32 months), most of whom (98%) came from Eastern Europe. Presence of BCG scar was observed in 59 (67.1%) of them, included five children without any pre-adoptive medical records. OBJECTIVE: To describe various infectious triggers for Kawasaki disease (KD) in India.
METHODS: A series of 10 children with diagnosed infections who developed KD during their course of illness has been presented. They were diagnosed by the American Heart Association (AHA) 2017 guidelines. Echocardiography was done to check for coronary artery dilation. Treatment was instituted as per standard protocol.
