Clinical observations, virologic studies, and treatment trials in patients with epidermodysplasia verruciformis, a disease induced by specific human papillomaviruses.

We have studied 11 patients with the papillomavirus-induced disease epidermodysplasia verruciformis (EV). Clinical diagnostic features are widespread, long-lasting, pityriasis versicolor-like macules and flat, wart-like papules, both usually occurring in early childhood, with the subsequent development in the third decade of multiple skin cancers of the Bowenoid in situ and squamous cell types, primarily in sun-exposed skin. Virologic studies using the methods of immunofluorescence microscopy, restriction endonuclease analysis, and DNA blot hybridization have shown benign lesions to be associa

Impact of histologic hepatic steatosis on virological response to nucleos(t)ide analogue therapy in patients with chronic hepatitis B.

Chronic hepatitis B remains a major cause of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma worldwide. We investigated whether histologic hepatic steatosis affects hepatitis B virus deoxyribonucleic acid (HBV DNA) suppression in patients receiving antiviral therapy. This retrospective observational study included 307 adult patients with chronic hepatitis B who received tenofovir or entecavir therapy and underwent pretreatment liver biopsy. Demographic, laboratory, virological, radiological, and histopathological data were retrieved from the electronic medical record system. Laboratory parameters inclu

Virologic Outcomes of Bictegravir/Emtricitabine/Tenofovir Alafenamide in Advanced HIV-1 Disease: A Propensity-Weighted Multicenter Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: Rapid and effective viral suppression (VS) is fundamental to immune reconstitution and reducing clinical morbidity in people with HIV-1. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of co-formulated bictegravir, emtricitabine, and tenofovir alafenamide (BIC/FTC/TAF) to achieve VS among people with advanced HIV-1 disease (AHD). METHODS: We conducted a multicenter retrospective cohort study of newly diagnosed people with AHD between 2018 and 2024. Clinical outcomes were compared between those initiating BIC/FTC/TAF and those initiating other regimens. The primary outcome was ever

Long‑Term Effectiveness and Safety of Doravirine‑Based Antiretroviral Regimens in Virologically Suppressed People with HIV: The French Dat'AIDS Cohort.

INTRODUCTION: Doravirine (DOR)-based regimens are recommended as alternative options for virologically suppressed people with HIV (VS-PWH). However, data supporting their long-term use in real-world settings are scarce. This large study described the long-term effectiveness and safety of DOR-based regimens following treatment switch in routine clinical practice. METHODS: Retrospective cohort study using data from Dat'AIDS, a French standardized database that collects real-world medical data from PWH across France. All treatment-experienced adults with confirmed plasma HIV-1 RNA < 50 copies/ml

Annual vs semi-annual follow-up in low complexity virologically suppressed people with HIV: a randomized interventional trial.

BACKGROUND: The increasing heterogeneity in people with HIV makes it necessary to evaluate new follow-up strategies tailored to clinical/social complexity. METHODS: Prospective, single-center, randomized, non-inferiority clinical-trial comparing two follow-up strategies - semi-annual standard care (SoC) or annual visits for 24 months- in virologically suppressed people with HIVand low-complexity profile, according to the GeSIDA "HIV Patient Stratification System". The primary endpoint was non-inferiority (prespecified lower margin: -4%) in virological control (viral load <50 copies/mL; FDA sn

Evolution of late hepatitis C relapse among patients with previous sustained virological responses: An 18-year prospective study.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: The phenotype of late relapsed hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection (RCI), defined as reappearance of serum HCV RNA in patients with sustained virological responses (SVRs) without reinfection, has yet to be fully elucidated in Asia. METHODS: This 18-y prospective study included 1004 Taiwanese SVR patients who were followed up every 3‒6 months. Assessments of late RCI were performed in patients with abnormal alanine aminotransferase levels or occult HCV infection (OCI). RESULTS: Among 531 SVR patients tested for OCI, 139 (26.1%) experienced OCI. Of 1004 SVR patients, 2 (0.19%) d

Serum soluble PD-L1 predicts hepatocellular carcinoma development across distinct virological cohorts of chronic hepatitis C.

BACKGROUND: Soluble programmed death ligand 1 (sPD-L1) reflects immune-inflammatory activity and may serve as a circulating biomarker of hepatocarcinogenesis. Whether baseline sPD-L1 predicts de novo hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients without existing HCC remains unclear. AIMS: To determine whether serum sPD-L1 predicts future HCC across distinct virological backgrounds of chronic hepatitis C. METHODS: Two temporally and clinically distinct cohorts from Nagasaki Medical Center were analyzed. The SVR cohort included 430 patients who achieved sustained virological response after direct

Clinical and Virological insights into acute primary Dengue infection from a Northeast Indian frontier state: A cross sectional study.

PURPOSE: Dengue virus (DENV) is a major public health concern in India, with rising reports of dual-serotype infections associated with severe clinical outcomes. Tripura has witnessed a significant spike in Dengue cases, suggesting the co-circulation of multiple serotypes. This study aimed to assess the acute primary Dengue infections in Tripura and evaluate the association of clinical features, viral load, and NS1 sample O.D. ratio with such infections. METHODS: A prospective cross-sectional study was conducted from April 2023 to March 2025 across all eight districts of Tripura. NS1-positive

BACKGROUND: Long-acting injectable cabotegravir/rilpivirine (LA-CAB/RPV) is an effective maintenance strategy for virologically suppressed people with HIV, though virologic failure with resistance remains uncommon and incompletely understood. METHODS: We describe a case of virologic failure in an HIV-infected patient receiving LA-CAB/RPV who developed intensive daily intravenous (IV) chemsex. Clinical history, virologic data, resistance testing, and potential contributing factors were reviewed. RESULTS: The patient had sustained viral suppression on prior oral antiretroviral therapy and rema
