New sulfonamide-hydrazone derivatives (3a-3n) were synthesized to evaluate their inhibitory effects on purified human carbonic anhydrase (hCA) I and II. The inhibition profiles of the synthesized compounds on hCA I-II isoenzyme were investigated by comparing their IC50 and Ki values. Acetazolamide (5-acetamido-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-sulfonamide, AZA) has also been used as a standard inhibitor. BACKGROUND: Perioperative seizure prophylaxis with antiepileptic drugs (AED) has been advocated in patients undergoing supratentorial craniotomy. The practice remains controversial. The reasoning presupposes that the possibility of an adverse drug reaction from the AED is lower than the probability of harm from a seizure. Even short periods of hypotension during the operation can lead to acute kidney and myocardial injury. OBJECTIVE: Lacosamide is approved for the adjunctive treatment of partial-onset seizures in adults. Phase II/III clinical trials suggest that it is a safe, effective and well-tolerated medication. However, there is little post-marketing information available about this medication.

Synergy time-kill studies of 47 methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains with differing resistance phenotypes showed that combinations of subinhibitory concentrations of ACHN-490 and daptomycin yielded synergy against 43/47 strains at 24 h, while the combination was indifferent against the remaining 4 strains.
