UNLABELLED: We describe a modified technique of black diaphragm intraocular lens (IOL) implantation in eyes with traumatic aniridia, aphakia, and previous vitrectomy. During black diaphragm IOL implantation, a double-armed 10-0 polypropylene suture is used to fixate the IOL in the ciliary sulcus. Two 10-0 polypropylene sutures are subsequently placed in front of the IOL to block its forward displacement and thus prevent its contact with the anterior chamber angle and corneal endothelium. Six human epikeratophakia lenticules were removed 1 to 23 months after refractive keratoplasty for aphakia (n = 2) and myopia (n = 4). A White glaucoma pump-shunt was inserted in 16 eyes in 15 patients, 2 to 76 years of age (10 female and 5 male patients; 6 were white, 6 were black, and 3 were Hispanic). The authors evaluate a questionnaire survey concern to cataract surgery in the Czech Republic. They present the results of all 58 ophthalmological departments where cataract is operated. In the CR in 2000 a total of 49,804 eyes were operated. In 94.4% of operations the technique of phacoemulsification was used. Primary implantation of an intraocular lens was used in 99% of the operated patients. In more than 27% for correction of aphakia a soft intraocular lens was used. Factors that determine pressure control after filtering surgery were studied in 194 eyes of 158 patients in a retrospective study. Emphasis was placed on the cumulative probability method of Kaplan and Meier and multiple regression analysis. Aphakia and the presence of a surgical bleb were the most important factors.
