Live, anesthetised pigs were used to assess behind-armour blunt trauma effects. The thoraco-abdominal body region was covered with varying thicknesses of Kevlar fabric packets. This soft body armour was applied, either in direct contact with the thoracic wall of the animals, or with different plastic foam sheets, so-called trauma packs, between the armour and the skin. OBJECTIVE: Combat veterans are at risk for several adverse outcomes such as posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, hazardous alcohol use, and most critically, suicidal behaviors. The high rate of suicide in veterans has been understood as a correlate of PTSD and depression, but it is possible that certain specific types of combat experiences may lead to suicidal behaviors. We report two cases of brucellosis in members of a hunt club, both of whom had killed and dressed wild boars. Serologic studies usually suffice for screening patients with suspected or possible brucellosis; however, and as illustrated by our index case, one should ask the laboratory to dilute serum out beyond the customary 1:160 titer if results are negative yet the clinical suspicion high. Hunters should be advised to wear gloves prior to dressing wild mammals.

This report describes a 3-year follow-up study of survivors of a mass shooting incident. Acute-phase and 1-year follow-up data from this incident have been previously reported. Ingested shotgun pellets were found in 13 of 56 hunter-killed wild waterfowl between October and December 1991 from two hunting grounds in Japan. Four of 33 other waterfowl found dead in lightly hunted areas between January 1991 and March 1992 were diagnosed as having lead poisoning. We propose that lead poisoning maybe a threat to waterfowl in Japan.

This nationwide cross-sectional study of the lifetime prevalence and determinants of suicide attempts includes 90% of Greenlandic forensic psychiatric patients. Retrospective data were collected from electronic patient files, court documents, and forensic psychiatric assessments using a coding form from a similar study.
