BACKGROUND: Obturator-type hip dislocation is a rare condition in pediatric patients, with the simultaneous occurrence of an ipsilateral subtrochanteric femoral fracture being exceptionally uncommon. Although various treatment methods have been described for hip dislocation or subtrochanteric femoral fractures, managing these injuries remains challenging due to the potential risk of femoral head avascular necrosis and concerns about fixation stability.
CASE PRESENTATION: An 8-year-old boy sustained a traumatic obturator hip dislocation and an ipsilateral subtrochanteric fracture following a f

INTRODUCTION: subtalar dislocations, typical of high-energy trauma, are classified as medial, lateral, anterior or posterior depending on the deviation of the foot in relation to the talus. Lateral dislocation accounts for 17% of the total and has a worse prognosis. Immediate reduction is required to reduce the risk of sequelae, the incidence of which is around 90%.
OBJECTIVE: a case of lateral subtalar dislocation is presented; a review of the literature on its diagnosis, treatment and prognosis is carried out.
CLINICAL CASE: a 46-year-old woman fell from a height of 3 meters, with severe d

Posterior dislocation of the shoulder joint is a rare condition. It is often misdiagnosed owing to a lack of evident clinical features compared with anterior shoulder dislocation, and inappropriate radiological examination. We present a case of chronic posterior fracture dislocation treated with greater tuberosity osteotomy. A 66-year-old man was injured in a fall while carrying a drone. He was referred to our hospital following 3 months of conservative treatment at a nearby clinic, without reduction of the posterior dislocation. Physical examination revealed a prominent reduction in shoulder …

The axial fracture dislocation of the carpal bones is a poorly understood injury. These injuries are often associated with nerve injuries, soft tissue injuries, and amputations. An optimal treatment is not yet known. We present a rare case of an open trans-scaphoid axial fracture dislocation of the carpus, characterized by a unique mechanism of injury. The patient received timely treatment, including irrigation and debridement, as well as reduction and fixation of the carpal fracture dislocation. It is essential to understand that these injuries tend to result in poor clinical outcomes, even w…

Fracture-dislocations of the hip is the result of high-energy trauma which necessitates urgent reduction. Closed reduction is usually attempted first and if failed, open reduction is indicated and may require more than one surgical approach. However, there is also the option of managing it with vector traction. This case report details the treatment of a middle-aged gentleman who sustained a left hip central dislocation which was gradually reduced with vector traction prior to surgery and in doing so, diminished the risk of him developing several potentially debilitating complications known to

CASE: 35-Year old male presented with acute right hip pain after a pivoting motion while playing soccer. This was a non-contact injury. Imaging revealed a posterior hip dislocation with an associated posterior wall acetabular fracture. He was treated with closed reduction of the hip followed by subsequent open reduction internal fixation of the acetabular fracture.
CONCLUSION: Posterior hip fracture dislocations can occur in adults following low energy non-contact injuries. Successful outcomes can be achieved if they are treated in a timely fashion, but unrecognized injuries can lead to devas…

Background: Patellar instability is a common orthopedic condition in the pediatric population. Many factors contribute to patellar instability, including trochlear dysplasia. However, patellar instability and its treatments are not well documented in the literature for patients with osteogenesis imperfecta. Case Report: After medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction, a 17-year-old male with osteogenesis imperfecta had a patellar dislocation that resulted in a patellar fracture. The patient subsequently had a revision of his MPFL reconstruction, and at 2½ years postoperation has had

PURPOSE: Thoracolumbar spine injury is frequently seen with high-energy trauma but dislocation fractures are relatively rare in spinal trauma, which is often neurologically severe and requires urgent treatment. Therefore, it is essential to understand other concomitant injuries when treating dislocation fractures. The purpose of this study is to determine the differences in clinical features between thoracolumbar spine injury without dislocation and thoracolumbar dislocation fracture.
METHODS: We conducted an observational study using the Japan Trauma Data Bank (2004-2019). A total of 734 dis

Epilepsy is a pathological condition characterized by seizures of muscle tension and convulsions in which the patient is unable to control himself, resulting in various complications and injuries. In this paper we talk about a rare case that combines a shoulder dislocation with a fracture of the surgical neck of the humerus after an epileptic seizure. The patient came to the hospital with clinical symptoms directed at dislocating the shoulder after an epileptic seizure, but careful examination and radiography revealed the presence of a fracture of the surgical neck of the humerus, so the manag

No previous reports have described combined upper and lower cervical injuries caused by a contrary injury mechanism. A 44-year-old man was transferred complaining of quadriplegia caused by a rear-end collision car accident. CT and MRI findings revealed posterior atlanto-occipital dislocation (AOD) with three-part Jefferson fracture and subaxial distractive extension (DE) injury at the C3-4 and C6-7 levels. MRI showed spinal cord injury at C3-4 and C6-7, which caused quadriplegia and respiratory failure. When the patient arrived at the emergency department, he was already intubated because of r

PURPOSE: Posterior fracture-dislocation of shoulder is an infrequent traumatic event; however, most orthopaedic surgeons may face the challenge of treating it. The aim of this study is to review and summarise systematically the current principles of the management of this complex injury, and create a treatment algorithm.
METHODS: Both PubMed and Scopus Databases were systematically searched for the terms "posterior shoulder fracture-dislocation" or "posterior glenohumeral fracture-dislocation" or "posterior glenoid fracture-dislocation" for articles written in English and published in the las

Dorsal dislocations and fracture-dislocations of the radiocarpal joint are a spectrum of pathology involving both the bony and ligamentous structures that stabilize the radiocarpal joint. We retrospectively reviewed 63 dorsal radiocarpal dislocations treated in our Institute in order to propose a new classification and define surgical treatment. Preoperative CT-scan findings together with clinical and radiological outcomes were recorded. We identified four main types of lesions: Type I, pure dorsal radiocarpal dislocation; Type IIA, dorsal wall impaction and radial styloid avulsion; Type IIB,

Open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) is an accepted treatment for displaced tarsometatarsal joint (TMTJ) fracture dislocations. In general, hardware is routinely removed after 4 months to allow restoration of joint motion and avoid complications of hardware failure. Because few studies report outcomes of TMTJ fractures with retained hardware, there is little consensus regarding the optimal time for hardware removal or if hardware retention leads to adverse outcomes. We retrospectively reviewed the radiographic outcomes of retained hardware after ORIF of TMTJ fractures/dislocations in 61 pat…
