Twenty-three patients with sacral agenesis evaluated at Newington Children's Hospital between 1959 and 1977 were classified according to patterns of morphologic deficiency in the bones and articulations. Motor deficit in these patients corresponded, within one level, to vertebral loss; sensory deficit did not correspond. The major orthopaedic problems often associated with sacral agenesis are spinopelvic instability, scoliosis, myelomeningocele, hip dislocation and contracture, knee contracture, and foot deformity. These can be controlled or corrected by proper orthopaedic management.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effectiveness of knee extensor mechanism reconstruction in the treatment of recurrent patellar subluxation with bone anchor in adolescents.
METHODS: Between January 2010 and December 2013, 20 patients with patellar subluxation were treated by knee extensor mechanism reconstruction with bone anchor. There were 11 males and 9 females, aged from 12 to 17 years (mean, 15.3 years). The left knee was involved in 12 cases and the right knee in 8 cases. The disease duration was 5-10 years (mean, 7 years). All the patients had knee pain and lateral subluxation of the patella.

Dysplasia spondyloepiphysaria means altered form and seizure of the vertebral bones and the epiphyseal bone regions. Pathologies related to this disease are: scoliosis, short stature, eye problems, articular deformities. We report a case of tarda form. The main problem was habitual and later fixed dislocation of both patellae together with valgus deformities of the knees. We describe the surgical procedures to gain reduced patellae and correction of the mechanical axis.

Disorders of the patellofemoral joint are commonly seen in musculoskeletal clinics. In recent years, the expansion of imaging techniques, improvements in correlative injury anatomy, and more focused physical examinations have resulted in new knowledge about patellofemoral disorders. To achieve optimal patient outcomes, it is helpful for orthopaedic surgeons who treat knee problems to review the management of patellar dislocations and isolated patellofemoral arthritis, including treatment algorithms.
