Bortezomib plus melphalan and prednisone (VMP) and lenalidomide plus low-dose dexamethasone (Rd) are 2 standards of care for elderly untreated multiple myeloma (MM) patients. Two cases of veno-occlusive disease (VOD) occurring in metastatic neuroblastoma patients are reported. Treatment included a remission induction by conventional chemotherapy and surgery followed by an early consolidation with massive chemotherapy, total body irradiation and cleared autologous bone marrow transplantation (ABMT). Both patients had multiple halothane anesthesias. Liver complications occurred 10 and 21 days respectively after ABMT. Chemotherapy in the management of extramedullary plasmacytoma.

The results of chemotherapy in 24 patients with extramedullary plasmacytoma are reported. Complete regressions, including disappearance of monoclonal paraprotein and healing of bone lesions, were seen in 12 of 20 (60%) patients with disseminated disease. Extramedullary plasmacytoma responds better to chemotherapy than myeloma, and treatment should be pursued with vigour until all signs of disease have disappeared. Sensitivity to single-agent chemotherapy may vary, and if treatment fails with one agent, others should be tried.

Twenty-three patients with multiple myeloma were studied. They were grouped according to their clinical response and changes in myeloma globulin in the serum or urine while under chemotherapy. Sixteen responded favorably with clinical improvement and marked reduction in the respective M-globulins.
