Ecological risk assessment of metals (As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb and Zn) in surface sediments from 31 small craft harbours (SCHs) in Nova Scotia, Canada was conducted using multiple risk assessment approaches. As a byproduct of municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) plant, fly ash is becoming a challenge for waste management in recent years. In this study, MSWI fly ash (FA) was evaluated for the potential capacity of odorous gas H2S removal. The association between exposure to toxic metals and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) was explored in a population-based case-control study in the Sardinia island (Italy), a region characterized by elevated rates of ALS cases.
