BACKGROUND: Phase I cardiac rehabilitation (CR) focuses on patient education for self-management post-discharge; however, it is often underdelivered, impacting subsequent uptake of phase II CR. This study aimed to explore the self-rated knowledge and confidence of cardiac nurses for inpatient education, specifically phase I (CR).
METHOD: A mixed-methods design was undertaken, integrating a cross-sectional survey with concurrent qualitative interviews with cardiac nurses. Descriptive statistics and sub-group analysis were used to evaluate cardiac nurses' experience and training, patient educat

Though school-partnered interventions have the potential to improve health outcomes, data are limited to support their implementation for type 1 diabetes. The objective was to characterize barriers and facilitators (i.e., determinants) to implementing school-partnered collaborative care (SPACE), an intervention designed to improve care coordination, nurse education, and diabetes management in school. We conducted semistructured interviews with school nurses in two states. The interview guide was adapted from the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research, which organizes determinants b

BACKGROUND: Maternal morbidity and mortality is rising in the United States. Previous studies focus on patient attributes, and most of the national data are based on research performed at urban tertiary care centers. Although it is well understood that nurses affect patient outcomes, there is scant evidence to understand the nurse work system, and no studies have specifically studied rural nurses. The authors sought to understand the systems-level factors affecting rural obstetric nurses when their patients experience clinical deterioration.
METHODS: The research team used a qualitative descr

BACKGROUND: The Government's aspiration to make Kenya a middle-income country and achieve the United Nations' sustainable development goal 3, 'good health and well-being', are threatened by poor quality of mental health services. Environment and lack of a conceptual model of nursing to guide care were some of the reasons that were attributed to poor quality of mental health services. The purpose of the study was to discover and describe an appropriate conceptual model of mental health nursing practice. This paper describes the environment which is one of the metaparadigms of a conceptual model

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To examine the common meanings of opioid-induced sedation and shared practices in the context of post-operative pain management in expert Post-Anesthesia Care Unit nurses during patient's pain management with opioids.
BACKGROUND: Within the clinical setting, linear pain and sedation scales are not enough to support clinical judgement with acute pain management. Because sedation measurement rests along a fluctuating continuum, it is possible for a patient to be sedated and then shift to increasing alertness, and then to drift back to a sedated state. This potential for acu

BACKGROUND: Extended hospital stays, higher hospital costs, and increased mortality are common central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) outcomes. Nurses' roles in preventing CLABSI are vital. Improving patient outcomes requires action to ensure intensive care unit (ICU) nurses' strict adherence with nursing practice guidelines.
AIM: The aim of this study was to develop and validate a nursing assessment tool to enhance CLABSI prevention and infection control in Chinese ICUs.

BACKGROUND: Nurses often face high levels of occupational stress due to demanding workloads, emotional challenges, and the significant responsibilities associated with patient care. This stress negatively impacts their life satisfaction, yet the potential protective role of spirituality in mitigating these effects remains insufficiently explored.
OBJECTIVE: The present study aims to investigate the mediating role of spirituality in the relationship between occupational stress and life satisfaction among nurses.
METHOD: Data were collected from 502 nurses (291 females, 58%; 211 males, 42%), a

BACKGROUND: To address poor oral health of residents in long-term care homes (LTCH), this study explored the process of integrating an educational resource and a dental hygienist on the interprofessional care team.
METHODS: This convergent mixed-methods study took place at a 472-bed LTCH in Toronto, Canada from February to August 2018. Nurses employed at the LTCH participated in the study. During the study period, a dental hygienist was integrated into an interprofessional LTCH team. Nurses completed an online eLearning module about using the Oral Health Assessment Tool (OHAT) when referring

BackgroundEmergency departments increasingly serve as access points for patients experiencing psychiatric crises, creating ethical challenges for nurses. These environments remain designed for biomedical acute care, fundamentally incongruent with the needs of individuals experiencing severe mental disorders. This phenomenon has rarely been explored through nurses' lived experiences.AimTo explore the structurally produced ethical conflicts and the care climate experienced by emergency nurses when caring for patients with severe mental disorders in general hospitals.Research designA qualitative

INTRODUCTION: The Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) has been used in various global settings as a rapid, reliable screening instrument to detect risky and hazardous alcohol consumption. However, there remain populations where the AUDIT has not been validated. Nurses make up a substantial proportion of healthcare workers globally, and their experiences during the recent pandemic response have indicated that risky and hazardous alcohol consumption has occurred among this occupational group. The objective of this study was to validate the AUDIT amongst a cohort of nurses.
