The aim of this study is to investigate the presence and career position of women in psychiatry and neurology in the GDR as fundamental preliminary work.A quantitative survey of female authors was conducted in the only GDR journal "Psychiatrie, Neurologie und Medizinische Psychologie". This was the most obvious publication option for GDR professionals. The number of publications by women increased significantly from 1968 onwards. Nevertheless, of the 5,662 publications between 1949 and 1990, only 18.12% were written by or with women. The 20 women with the most publications can be identified for

Prognosis of Pregnancy-Associated Breast Cancer: A Systematic Review of Contemporary Observational Studies.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Pregnancy-associated breast cancer (PABC) is uncommon but increasingly encountered as more women delay childbearing. Its prognostic impact remains controversial, particularly for cancers diagnosed in the early postpartum period. We aimed to synthesize contemporary evidence on the prognosis of breast cancer diagnosed during pregnancy or within 12 months after delivery compared with breast cancer in other young women, with a specific focus on differences between pregnancy time and postpartum disease. METHODS: We performed a systematic review of observational studies publi

From Germany to the world: analysis of 25,931 documents (from 1873 to 2025) published in Naunyn-Schmiedeberg's Archives of Pharmacology.

Naunyn-Schmiedeberg's Archives of Pharmacology has been a prominent journal in pharmacology since its inception in 1873, contributing significantly to experimental and clinical pharmacology, as well as toxicology. Despite its origins as the official journal of the German Society of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology, there is a commonly held assumption that it predominantly publishes research from Germany. This study challenges that notion by examining the journal's publication dynamics over time, including the historical output, international participation, and regional con

Can generative AI improve academic journal selection decisions? Assessing traditional and algorithmic approaches in medical research.

INTRODUCTION: Journal selection is a critical step in the scientific publishing process, influencing the visibility, impact, and credibility of the published work. This task has become increasingly complex due to the proliferation of journals, predatory practices, and the diversity of editorial criteria. This narrative review presented an overview of classical tools, artificial intelligence (AI)-driven platforms, and generative models (ChatGPT, Grok) used to recommend suitable journals for an unpublished manuscript. METHODS: Six tools were tested (Springer Journal Finder, Jane, Manuscript Mat

Peripartum cardiomyopathy in the twenty-first century: a review of the pathophysiology and clinical trials for novel disease-specific therapeutics.

Peripartum cardiomyopathy is an idiopathic and nonischemic systolic dysfunction with onset toward the end of pregnancy and up to 5 months postpartum. Its clinical phenotype overlaps with pregnancy-associated cardiomyopathy rendering both a continuum of the same disease. Incidence varies geographically and is highest in areas where risk factors are prevalent. The understanding of its pathophysiology is constantly evolving, but a proposed two-hit model of dysfunctional vasculogenesis and genetic predisposition exacerbated by the hemodynamic stressors of pregnancy is widely accepted. The catalysi

Developing a Scale for the Evaluation of People With Post-prandial Distress Syndrome.

Background: Functional dyspepsia (FD) is one of the most critical health problems worldwide. Although there has been an increased intervention to improve FD symptoms, it is difficult to compare the effect of intervention measures with the existing methods of reporting the outcome, and it is a lack of clinical evaluation tools that can be used to evaluate patients' symptoms and treatment. One way of potentially addressing this way is to offer a patient-reported symptom scoring scales, which can be self-reported by patients to highlight interventions' authenticity and reliability. Nevertheless,

Sleep, biological rhythms and anxiety in the perinatal period: a systematic review protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Pregnancy and new parenthood is an exciting time, but also a stressful life event that can predispose to mental health challenges. Perinatal anxiety is one such challenge, and is an important contributor to parental distress and other negative outcomes. Sleep and biological rhythms are often disrupted in the perinatal period. These disruptions have been associated with postpartum depression, and in some cases with perinatal anxiety. However, the literature concerning the association with perinatal anxiety is inconsistent and may be methodologically limited. To our knowledge, ther

[An allied miracle cure; how liberators introduced penicillin in the Netherlands].

The introduction of penicillin to medical practice in the Netherlands is closely related to the liberation of the Netherlands from Nazi occupation. The allied forces brought penicillin - of which they had vast quantities - to the Netherlands and introduced it to Dutch doctors. In many of the oldest documented cases involving the use of penicillin in the Netherlands, allied army doctors gave the ampoules of penicillin to Dutch doctors, who used the until then unknown medicine as a last-resort drug to treat patients with severe infections that had failed to respond to other treatments. [Recommendations about Multiple Sclerosis Management during Pregnancy, Partum and Post-Partum: Consensus Position of the Portuguese Multiple Sclerosis Study Group].

Multiple sclerosis typically affects young women of reproductive age. Therefore, all healthcare professionals involved in the follow-up of multiple sclerosis patients must be prepared to discuss pregnancy and breastfeeding issues and provide the best possible counselling. However, there are still many doubts and heterogeneous clinical approaches partly due to the lack of consensus and guidelines. Concerning the handling of disease modifying therapies during pregnancy and postpartum, existing uncertainties have been complicated by the increase in the number of treatments available in recent yea
