Phosphatase enzymes are capable of releasing phosphate through cleavage of phosphoester bonds. The seasonal importance of this process was examined by using a model substrate paranitrophenylphosphate and the Michaelis-Menten equation to estimate the release rate of PO 4 -P from phosphomonoesters. Phytate or phytic acid (PA), is a phosphorus (P) containing compound generated by the stepwise phosphorylation of myo-inositol. It forms complexes with some nutrient cations, such as Ca, Fe and Zn, compromising their absorption and thus acting as an anti-nutrient in the digestive tract of humans and monogastric animals. To evaluate if valproic acid (VPA) therapy is associated with vitamin D deficiency among infants and toddlers with epilepsy, a cross-sectional clinical study was conducted in 25 children with epilepsy taking VPA. Using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) we studied the overall reaction pathways and ultimate fate of dimethyl methylphosphonate (DMMP), a chemical warfare agent simulant, on a commercial nanoparticulate (approximately 20 nm) titania material.
