A total of nine isolates of streptomycetes were isolated from scab lesions on potato tubers. Five out of them were pathogenic on potato minitubers and four of the pathogenic isolates produced thaxtomin A in infected tubers tissues. The lesion surface areas induced by thaxtomin A were highest in treatment of the minitubers with extract of OMB inoculated with S-6 and S-7, intermediate with that inoculated with S-4 and lowest with S-3. The thaxtomins are a group of phytotoxins generated by the bacterium Streptomyces scabies (the main causal organism of potato common scab). Available members of the group were assessed for herbicidal activity by a variety of standard tests. We have previously reported that the serotonin (5-HT) agonist meta-chlorophenylpiperazine (m-CPP) induced late occurring migraine-like headaches in a group of patients with eating disorders and controls (n = 52). Eleven male patients from Mali with Onchocerca volvulus infections received in random order a 1200 mg single oral dose of CGP 6140 after an overnight fast and after food intake. An open study was carried out in 79 children known to be susceptible to car sickness to assess the efficacy and tolerance of cinnarizine used prophylactically. Each child received one 15 mg cinnarizine tablet 2 hours before a long car journey and a further half-tablet every 8 hours thereafter, if required. The results of the children's assessments indicated that 81% considered the preparation either 'good' or 'excellent' and 69% of the 68 who had previously received other medication for travel sickness rated it 'better' or 'much better'.
