Micellization of selected quaternary ammonium compounds derived from heptacaine have been studied by absorption spectroscopy in the UV/VIS spectral region with the use of a pyrene probe. The compounds studied in the aqueous solution have been marked as H22, H26, H27, H29, H34, H + Al and H + B and the derivative marked as H34 was studied in a 3 mol/l ethanol solution at the temperature of 25 °C. This case report describes a man with intractable hiccups probably caused by donepezil. The patient's symptoms were not responsive to commonly used medications for hiccups, but they were improved and completely relieved upon donepezil dose deescalation and discontinuation. A series of febrifugine analogues were designed and synthesized. Antimalarial activity evaluation of the synthetic compounds indicated that these derivatives had a strong inhibition against both chloroquine-sensitive and -resistant Plasmodium falciparum parasites. Many of them were found to be more active than febrifugine hydrochloride. The tested analogues had also a significant cytotoxicity against four cancer cell lines (KB, MCF7, LU1 and HepG2). OBJECTIVE: To report an uncommon adverse event in an elderly patient related to the cholinesterase inhibitor, donepezil.
CASE SUMMARY: An 80-year-old Greek woman with Alzheimer disease was admitted to the hospital with a sudden onset of myoclonus in both upper and lower extremities after receiving 30 mg of donepezil daily for 25 days. After 36 hours of donepezil remission, the frequency of the myoclonic jerks was sharply reduced. The patient remains asymptomatic after 6 months of follow-up.

OBJECTIVE: To review the main advances related to the potential therapeutic use of cannabinoid compounds in psychiatry.
METHOD: A search was performed in the online databases PubMed, ScieELO, and Lilacs for studies and literature reviews concerning therapeutic applications of cannabinoids in psychiatry, especially cannabidiol, rimonabant, Delta(9)-tetrahydrocannabinol, and their analogues.

The pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of chlorpromazine, haloperidol, clozapine, and risperidone are described. The present paper has been focussed on the study of quantitative relations between structure, physico-chemical properties and biological activity in the series of substances with potential local anaesthetic and beta-adrenolytic effectiveness from the group of phenylcarbamic acid derivatives. The study of the above-mentioned relations and their interpretation could contribute to the optimization of new potential medicaments.
