An Analysis of Print and Online Media's Representation of Prostate Cancer in Public Figures.

Print and online media play a crucial role in shaping public understanding of diseases like prostate cancer (PCa), particularly through reporting on public figures. However, such media coverage can introduce bias by providing incomplete or non-evidence-based information. This study aimed to assess potential bias by applying a standardized rubric to articles discussing PCa in public figures. Articles were sourced from LexisNexis® using the terms "prostate cancer" and the name of a public figure diagnosed with the disease. The study analyzed 147 articles covering 49 public figures, selected base

Icariin-Releasing 3-Dimensionally Printed Scaffolds for Alveolar Cleft Reconstruction.

High-performance photodetectors hold promising potential in optical communication and imaging systems. However, conventional counterparts are suffering narrow detection range, high power consumption, and poor polarization sensitivity. Characteristics originating from switchable polarization in ferroelectrics can be used to optimize the photo-to-electric procedure and improve the photodetection performance. In this regard, we constructed a configuration by integrating 2-dimensional molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) with ferroelectric lithium niobate (LiNbO3), resulting in the MoS2/LiNbO3 heterostruct

Gene-activation of surface-modified 3D printed calcium phosphate scaffolds.

Large volume bone defects that do not spontaneously heal despite surgical stabilization ("critical-sized" defects) remain a challenge to treat clinically. Recent research investigating bone regenerative implants made from 3D printed materials have shown promise as a potential alternative to current treatment methods, such as autografting, allografting, and multi-step surgical interventions. Recent work has shown that implanting 3D printed calcium phosphate cement (CPC) scaffolds loaded with bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) can provide a one-step surgical intervention that has similar bone

The optical performance of a 3D printed, titanium dioxide painted, Ganzfeld bowl.

The emergence of three dimensional (3D) printing has inspired creative ways to enable clinicians to make their own medical devices at low cost, a process called distributed manufacture. Devices for light stimulation, such as for visual electrophysiology or pupillometry, require both physical and optical properties. Here we tested whether a 3D printed (fused deposition modelling, FDM) poly-lactic acid (PLA) surface can exhibit Lambertian reflectance, and tested the behaviour of a 3D printed Ganzfeld bowl as an integrating sphere. White PLA transmits light, so a painted inside surface was necess…
