Heterogeneity in Pancreatitis: Recognizing Heterogeneity and Its Role in the Management of Pancreatitis Summary of a National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases Workshop.

Both the clinical management and study of recurrent acute pancreatitis and chronic pancreatitis are complicated by significant heterogeneity in the etiology, mechanisms, symptoms, and complications of pancreatitis. The National Institutes of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disease recently convened a workshop to address current knowledge and knowledge gaps in the field. Preclinical models that better replicate human disease are important for development of new therapies. Pain is often the most common and most difficult symptom to treat, as the causes are multifactorial and effective treatmen

Analgesia, Sedation, and Anesthesia for Neonates With Cardiac Disease.

Analgesia, sedation, and anesthesia are a continuum. Diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures in newborns often require analgesia, sedation, and/or anesthesia. Newborns, in general, and, particularly, those with heart disease, have an increased risk of serious adverse events, including mortality under anesthesia. In this section, we discuss the assessment and management of pain and discomfort during interventions, review the doses and side effects of commonly used medications, and provide recommendations for their use in newborns with heart disease. For procedures requiring deeper levels of se

Distal Radial Artery Access With 6F and 7F Thin-Walled Sheaths for Coronary Intervention: A Multicentre, Randomized, DRAWS Trial Protocol.

Distal radial artery access (dTRA) reduces radial artery occlusion (RAO) and improves safety compared with conventional transradial access, yet its use in complex coronary interventions necessitating larger guiding catheters remains limited. Thin-walled 7F sheaths with reduced external diameter may overcome this barrier. We present the protocol for a multicentre, randomized, open-label, noninferiority trial enrolling 574 patients aged 18 to 80 years with distal radial artery diameter ≥ 1.7 mm who are scheduled for elective percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) across 5 Chinese centres. Carotid Artery Tortuosity With a Vertebral Artery Entering the Transverse Foramen at an Atypical Level: A Cadaveric Case Underlining the Need for Thorough Anatomical Assessment Before a Stellate Ganglion Block.

A stellate ganglion block (SGB) is a therapeutic procedure that transiently interrupts the cervical sympathetic trunk using a local anesthetic, applied not only for pain management but also for conditions such as facial nerve palsy, sudden sensorineural hearing loss, hyperhidrosis, post-traumatic stress disorder, and certain cardiac arrhythmias. The widespread adoption of ultrasound guidance has improved both the safety and the precision of SGB. During cadaveric dissection at Teikyo University School of Medicine in 2024, a rare coexistence of right common carotid artery (RCCA) tortuosity and a
