Resident autonomy in orthopedic trauma: independent femoral IMN by senior residents yields comparable outcomes to fellowship-trained surgeons.

INTRODUCTION: Intramedullary nailing (IMN) of femoral shaft fractures is a fundamental cornerstone procedure in orthopedic trauma and an important benchmark of resident surgical competency. While independent resident operating is essential for skill development, its safety in complex trauma cases remains debated. This study evaluated whether senior residents can safely perform femoral IMN without direct supervision compared with fellowship-trained trauma surgeons. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective cohort analysis was performed of adult patients undergoing IMN for isolated femoral shaft f

Building Competence in Practice with the Polyamorous Community: A Scoping Review.

The landscape of relationships, gender, and sexuality continues to change rapidly across the world. This includes recognition of relationship styles such as polyamory, in which individuals have multiple romantic relationships with the knowledge and consent of all involved. In the academic literature on polyamory, social work perspectives are noticeably absent. Thus, a scoping review concerning social work, counseling, and polyamory was conducted to assess knowledge from the last decade and to contribute to the field. The themes that arose were the need for clinicians to examine their biases to

Awareness of medical students in a medical college in Mangalore, Karnataka, India concerning infection prevention practices.

BACKGROUND: Healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs) are an important public health problem. It is estimated that approximately 1 out of every 20 hospitalized patients will contract an HCAI. The risk is substantial not only to patients but also to healthcare workers, who may contract deadly blood-borne infectious diseases. Hence, it is essential for healthcare professionals to have adequate knowledge regarding infection prevention practices (IPPs) to reduce the burden of these illnesses among patients seeking care. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted among 268 medical students a

Validation of an instrument for assessing teacher knowledge of basic language constructs of literacy.

Recent national reports have stressed the importance of teacher knowledge in teaching reading. However, in the past, teachers' knowledge of language and literacy constructs has typically been assessed with instruments that are not fully tested for validity. In the present study, an instrument was developed; and its reliability, item difficulty, and item discrimination were computed and examined to identify model fit by applying exploratory factor analysis. Such analyses showed that the instrument demonstrated adequate estimates of reliability in assessing teachers' knowledge of language constr
