Four uncommon cases of canine distemper (CD) were diagnosed in vaccinated adult dogs. All dogs had acute onset of neurologic signs, including seizures, abnormal mentation, ataxia, and proprioceptive deficits. Polymerase chain reaction for CD virus was positive on cerebrospinal fluid in 2 cases. Due to rapid deterioration the dogs were euthanized and CD was confirmed by postmortem examination.

A 55-year-old man presenting with acquired pendular vertical nystagmus without a null zone was treated with large recessions of the four vertical rectus muscles. Nystagmus and oscillopsia were greatly reduced after surgery. Associated lid nystagmus persisted after surgery, suggesting that treatment success was caused by mechanical weakening of the muscles rather than by interruption of a proprioceptive feedback loop.

The paper reports the case of sibs, brother and sister, with Martin-Bell's syndrome confirmed cytogenetically. Mental retardation and autism were the main phenomena in the clinical picture. Positive effect was achieved by means of Skvortsov--Osipenko method (metameric injection of cerebral hydrolysates' preparations, stimulation of visual, acoustic and proprioceptive analyzers). Electrocorticograms of vibration induced effects were studied in intact and labyrinthectomized rabbits under midbrain reticular formation and renoreactive structures blockade. There was involvement of the specific (vestibular) and non-specific brain structures in the mechanisms underlying the cortex' electric activity. Impairment of object-bound movements of the hand performed under visual guidance ("optic ataxia") was a prominent sign in a patient with bilateral circumscribed infarctions in the posterior watershed territory.
