A binding protein for growth hormone in serum from female rats has been identified and partially characterized. Serum was incubated with 125I-labelled human GH and fractionated on an agarose HPLC column. Complexes between the binding protein and 125I-hGH were detected as a peak eluted at a volume corresponding to a relative molecular weight of 159,000 +/- 11,000 (N = 8). The peak was not seen when the incubation was carried out in the presence of excess unlabelled hGH. Protein binding of prilocaine was investigated in vitro under various conditions of changing pH, temperature and total plasma concentration by means of HPLC with UV-detection and ultrafiltration. The effects of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) on plasma concentrations and protein binding of methohexital and thiopental were studied during continuous infusions in two groups of ten cardiac surgical patients. Patients were administered an infusion regimen designed to produce a stable total plasma concentration at 5 mg/L for methohexital and 10 mg/L for thiopental. Valproic acid and free fatty acids have been shown to displace diazepam from its plasma binding sites both in vitro and in vivo. Since lorazepam exhibits a substantial degree of binding, but differs from other benzodiazepines in that no increase in its free fraction in serum is observed when free fatty acids are raised, the effect of valproate on the serum protein binding of diazepam and lorazepam was assessed. Sodium valproate produced a marked increase in the free fraction of diazepam, but practically no effect on the percentage of free lorazepam.

Breast cyst fluids from 33 patients who underwent cyst aspiration were examined for their content of total protein, albumin, corticosteroid-binding globulin (CBG), and testosterone-estradiol-binding globulin (TeBG).
