Ovarian follicular cysts and persistent follicles are follicular pathologies involved in reduced fertility of dairy cows. Two separate experiments were performed on high-yielding Holstein cows to characterize ovarian cyclicity and evaluate the developmental dynamics of follicle pathologies postpartum. In experiment 1, 58 cows were monitored by ultrasonography twice weekly from d 18±1 to 69±2 postpartum. Pelvic tuberculosis (TB) in pregnancy and puerperium is rare. Its atypical presentation as puerperal shock is more rare. We describe a case of pelvic TB that manifested as shock in a teenager who was two weeks postpartum. She failed to respond to antibiotics. Ziehl-Neelsen staining of aspirated pus from the left fossa collection in the abdominal cavity was positive for mycobacterium TB. Prompt treatment with antitubercular therapy could save patients from this life-threatening condition.

BACKGROUND: Cystic tumors of the pancreas are uncommon. They account for 10-15% of all pancreatic cystic masses and only 1% of pancreatic malignancies. Mucinous cystadenocarcinoma is the most frequent pancreatic cystadenocarcinoma and it is mainly seen in women, suggesting a sex hormone influence. To obtain a basal concentration of serum Haptoglobin (Hp) in cattle in Taiwan, Hp concentrations were measured from serum samples collected from 10 healthy heifers, every week for one year. The values were also compared with those collected from 15 cows diagnosed with postpartum metritis. The heifers were successfully impregnated by artificial insemination six months after the tests.
