The emergence of SARS-CoV-2 has led to the current global coronavirus pandemic and more than one million infections since December 2019. BACKGROUND: The serotonin system and hypothalamic pituitary-adrenal (HPA)-axis are each implicated in the pathway to depression; human and animal research support these systems' cross-talk.
