In the realm of gaming-related concerns, the relationship between gaming time (GT) and gaming disorder (GD) remains an intriguing and complex subject. Although increased GT is not a reliable predictor of GD risk, the circumstances under which this relationship strengthens or weakens remain relatively unknown. This study explores the roles of immersion/escapism motive (IEM) and GT in the context of GD among highly engaged gamers (N = 294), each dedicating a minimum of 20 hours weekly to gaming. The findings confirm that IEM significantly moderates the relationship between GT and GD in the male

UNLABELLED: Several studies have indicated a co-occurrence between mental problems, a bad economy, and social isolation. Medical treatments focus on reducing the extent of psychiatric problems. Recent research, however, has highlighted the possible effects of social initiatives. The aim of this study was to examine the relation between severe mental illness, economic status, and social relations.
METHOD: a financial contribution per month was granted to 100 individuals with severe mental illnesses for a 9-month period. Assessments of the subjects were made before the start of the intervention

The search for new treatments to improve outcome in people with anorexia nervosa continues. This pilot study investigated whether one session of high frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) delivered to the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex reduces eating disorder related symptoms following exposure to visual and real food stimuli. Safety and tolerability were also assessed. Ten right-handed people with anorexia nervosa underwent one session of rTMS. Subjective experiences related to the eating disorder (e.g. urge to restrict, feeling full etc.) were assessed before and

OBJECTIVE: This study tested the psychometric properties of two commonly used measures of dietary restraint, the Three Factor Eating Questionnaire and the Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire.
METHOD: Restraint data from 512 overweight/obese participants with binge eating disorder (BED) were subjected to exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses.
RESULTS: Factor analyses of the restraint variables indicated a two-factor solution, interpreted as "Regimented" and "Lifestyle" restraint. Stepwise regression analyses revealed that Regimented restraint was more predictive of eating patholo

BACKGROUND: Growing evidence supports the impact of psychological factors such as traumatic experiences and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) on the incidence of arterial hypertension (HTN) and cardiovascular diseases (CVD). The war in Ukraine is exposing million inhabitants to traumatic experiences and severe stress. Part of Ukrainians (mostly women and children) left the country to escape war. We report the protocol of a prospective study aiming at the assessment of the impact of war-induced stress on HTN and CVD in women Ukrainian refugees who moved to Poland.

BACKGROUND: Long-term posttraumatic outcomes such as quality of life are dependent on a series of factors from the very exposure to traumatic events and stress appraisals, personality traits, posttraumatic growth, symptoms of Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and different coping strategies to religiousness and religious coping styles. Except of exposure to traumatic events and related stress, all other variables may have indirect mediating effects on long-term posttraumatic outcomes. The main aim of this cross-sectional study is to explore relative independent contribution of these variabl

In visual-motor coordination, the human brain processes visual stimuli representative of complex motion-related tasks at the occipital lobe to generate the necessary neuronal signals for the parietal and pre-frontal lobes, which in turn generates movement related plans to excite the motor cortex to execute the actual tasks. The paper introduces a novel approach to provide rehabilitative support to patients suffering from neurological damage in their pre-frontal, parietal and/or motor cortex regions. An attempt to bypass the natural visual-motor pathway is undertaken using interval type-2 fuzzy

STUDY OBJECTIVE: Use of gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists (GnRHa) to treat endometriosis can cause mood and vasomotor side effects. "Add-back therapy," the combination of low-dose hormones, limits side effects but research is limited to adults. We sought to characterize quality of life (QOL) before treatment and to compare an add-back regimen of norethindrone acetate (NA) with conjugated estrogens (CEE) to NA alone for preventing side effects of GnRHa therapy in female adolescents with endometriosis.
DESIGN: Twelve-month double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.

Alexithymia characterizes people having important difficulties in putting their feelings and moods into words. Adolescents' depression shows some peculiarities: one of them, which is often observed, is the equal difficulty of imparting one's feelings to others. This research concerns adolescents who attempted suicide. We study classical factors: depression and hopelessness. But our main objective is at first to study the relationship between attempted suicide, depression, hopelessness and alexithymia. The second objective of our study deals with the the prominent part of early schematas in thi

Molecular breath research using secondary electrospray ionisation high-resolution mass spectrometry (SESI-HRMS) commonly uses single-use mouthpieces to facilitate sampling and reduce contamination risk. Many incorporate bacterial/viral filters, but their influence on untargeted molecular breath profiles is poorly characterised. This study aimed to determine whether commercially available mouthpieces alter SESI-HRMS breath profiles, identify molecular classes affected by filtered mouthpieces, and assess whether ComBat batch correction reduces mouthpiece-related variance while preserving inter-s

OBJECTIVES: Cochlear implantation in early-deafened patients, implanted as adolescents or adults, is not always advised due to poor expected outcomes. In order to judge whether such reluctance is justified, the current systematic review aimed to gather all available evidence on postoperative outcomes obtained by early-deafened patients using a state-of-the art cochlear implant (CI).
DESIGN: Five electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane library, CINAHL, and PsycInfo) were systematically searched for studies in English, French, German, or Dutch, published between 2000 and September 20

Deep rock structures are often subjected to complex cyclic disturbances generated by earthquakes and blasting vibrations. The rocks will resist disturbance with multiple stress levels, and the research on mechanical response is still insufficient under such conditions. A series of multi-level cyclic loading experiments were subjected to limestone specimens to obtain the stress-strain relation and fracture behavior. This study explored the effect of amplitude and cycle times on rocks. A Discrete Element Method model of rock specimens was established in Particle Flow Code 2D (PFC2D). The simulat

Limbic-predominant age-related TDP-43 encephalopathy neuropathologic changes (LATE-NC) often occur in aged brains that also contain appreciable Alzheimer disease neuropathologic changes (ADNC). Question has arisen as to whether LATE-NC can occur independently of ADNC. We evaluated data from the University of Kentucky Alzheimer's Disease Research Center autopsy cohort (383 included subjects) to address 2 questions: (i) Is LATE-NC seen in the absence of ADNC, outside of persons who had the frontotemporal dementia (FTD) clinical syndrome? and (ii) is LATE-NC associated with cognitive impairment a

The ego-dystonic experience refers to the negative assessment that the subject makes of some of their thoughts or emotions, in the context of a conserved state of consciousness, as well as other aspects of their social and intrapersonal life that are relatively intact. Ego-dystonia is a widely used construct, but one that has not been defined in reasonably operational terms. Perhaps this explains why it is no longer used in contemporary classifications of mental disorders such as the ICD-11 and DSM-5. It is related to the awareness of the mental illness, with feelings of guilt and shame, but i

BACKGROUND: Until now, no validated instrument to measure disease-specific, health-related quality of life (HR-QOL) in adults with chronic tonsillitis (CTO) exists.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: After an item reduction of the alpha-version of the Tonsillectomy Outcome Inventory (TOI), the TOI-14 resulted. In addition to the total score, it includes the subscales throat problems, overall health, resources, and social-psychological restrictions. In phase 2, the TOI-14 was prospectively validated on 108 adults with CTO, who had undergone a tonsillectomy.
RESULTS: The TOI-14 had, on average, good reliab

Both affective neuroscience and decision science focus on the role of emotions in decisions. Regret and disappointment are emotions experienced with negative decision outcomes. The present research examines the neural substrates of regret and disappointment as well as the role of regret and disappointment in decision making. Experiment 1 compared the subjective experience of regret and disappointment. Participants selected one of two gambles and received different types of feedback during the outcome phase. Despite identical nominal losses, regret induced a more intense dislike of the outcomes
