Secondary Distribution of Dual HIV/Syphilis Self-Testing Among Men Who Have Sex With Men: Pragmatic Randomized Controlled Trial in China.

BACKGROUND: The World Health Organization recommends dual HIV/syphilis testing, but this approach has not been examined in many low- and middle-income countries. Dual HIV/syphilis self-testing may accelerate secondary distribution of self-test kits. Preliminary studies in Guangdong, China, have demonstrated the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of dual HIV/syphilis self-testing distribution via social media, but evidence comparing dual HIV/syphilis self-testing to single HIV self-testing for secondary distribution within social networks remains limited in resource-limited settings. OBJECTIVE

Detection of Community Transmission of Clade Ib Mpox Virus in the United States.

AbstractA clade Ib mpox virus (MPXV) outbreak in Central and Eastern Africa has led to multiple travel-associated infections. In October 2025, clade Ib MPXV infection was confirmed in three unvaccinated, hospitalized men in California reporting no international travel. Phylogenetic analysis revealed clustering of these three MPXV infections with one recent travel-associated MPXV infection. This report provides evidence for local transmission of clade Ib MPXV in the Americas, occurring among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men and their social networks.

Weathering the Storm: Climate-Related Weather Event Experiences of Families of Children With Medical Complexity.

BACKGROUND: Climate change is increasingly an urgent concern because of the catastrophic and irreversible impacts on the planet and society as a whole. In recent years, there have also been more frequent and extreme weather events such as heatwaves, droughts, floods and wildfires across the globe. Although families of children with medical complexity may be particularly vulnerable to the impacts of extreme weather events, few studies exist that address this topic. METHODS: Drawing upon a subset of data from two qualitative studies, we explored the experiences of families during climate-relate

Knowledge Mediates the Effects of Game Changers for Cervical Cancer Prevention (GC-CCP) Intervention on Increased VIA Screening Advocacy in Uganda.

UNLABELLED: Game Changers for Cervical Cancer Prevention (GC-CCP), a group advocacy training intervention, has been shown to increase cervical cancer prevention and screening advocacy. In this secondary analysis, we examined mediators and moderators of this effect. A randomized controlled trial of GC-CCP-a 7-session, peer led intervention designed to empower women to engage in cervical cancer prevention advocacy-was conducted with women who had recently been screened by visual inspection of the cervix with acetic acid for cervical cancer. Participants were assessed at baseline and month 6 foll

The dual contingencies of ethnoraciality: Status-context disparities in health information sources among sexual minorities.

Researchers often explore health (care) beliefs as a function of individual characteristics; yet, few consider the role of context in shaping both beliefs and the behaviors that are informed by them. As a sociopolitical construct, ethnoraciality provides a concerning source of bias in studies of health (care) beliefs because it inhabits both individual and contextual forms. This study examines whether the ethnoracial context of the residential area where sexual minorities live is associated with a particular health (care) belief - sources of trustworthy health information - and considers how e

A web-based survey of horse owners' perceptions and network analysis of horse movements relating to African horse sickness distribution in Namibia and South Africa.

Africa horse sickness (AHS) is the most lethal infectious non-contagious horse disease and has accordingly been declared notifiable by the World Organisation for Animal Health. AHS is endemic to sub-Saharan Africa and causes considerable losses to the equestrian industry. The effect of diseases in livestock on socio-economic factors is well researched, but the effect of anthropogenic factors on the distribution of a disease is poorly understood. The purpose of the study was to assess Namibian and South African horse owners' perceptions and the effect of horse movement on AHS distribution. A cr

The relationship between academic stress and depressive symptoms in middle school students: a network analysis model.

OBJECTIVE: Based on network analysis methodology, a network model was constructed to elucidate the relationship between academic stress and depressive symptoms among middle school students. By identifying core nodes (high-strength symptoms) and bridge nodes (cross-group associated symptoms) within the two symptom clusters, the study reveals the interactive pathways between these constructs. This approach provides a foundation for precise mental health interventions tailored to middle school students. METHODS: A total of 1,576 middle school students in central Anhui Province were selected by th

Research on the socio-spatial resilience evaluation and evolution of the central area of Chengdu in transitional China.

Amid rapid urbanization and growing socio-environmental risks, understanding urban resilience dynamics is crucial for sustainable city governance. This study proposes a data-driven framework to evaluate the socio-spatial resilience of Chengdu’s central area from 2000 to 2020. Integrating the entropy weighting method and set pair analysis, it constructs an eight-dimensional evaluation indicator system. Results reveal an overall increase in comprehensive resilience, though marked by pronounced heterogeneity across social areas and dimensions. Middle-class and working-class social areas achieved

Attitudes and Perceived Social Norms toward Drug Use among Gay and Bisexual Men in Australia.

BACKGROUND: Gay and bisexual men (GBM) report distinctive patterns and contexts of drug use, yet little has been published about their attitudes toward drug use. OBJECTIVES: We developed measures of attitudes and perceived social norms toward drug use, and examined covariates of more accepting attitudes and norms among GBM in Australia. METHODS: We analyzed baseline data from the Following Lives Undergoing Change (Flux) study. Flux is an online prospective observational study of drug use among Australian GBM. We used principal components factor analysis to generate two attitudinal scales ass

Using network projections to explore co-incidence and context in large clinical datasets: Application to homelessness among U.S. Veterans.

INTRODUCTION: Network projections of data can provide an efficient format for data exploration of co-incidence in large clinical datasets. We present and explore the utility of a network projection approach to finding patterns in health care data that could be exploited to prevent homelessness among U.S. Veterans. METHOD: We divided Veteran ICD-9-CM (ICD9) data into two time periods (0-59 and 60-364days prior to the first evidence of homelessness) and then used Pajek social network analysis software to visualize these data as three different networks. A multi-relational network simultaneously…

Transitions to Sociobioeconomy in the Amazon: Governance, Business, and Sustainable Innovations.

Sociobioeconomy has gained prominence as an alternative to conventional bioeconomy by integrating biodiversity conservation, social inclusion, and the valorization of traditional knowledge. This article aims to identify the institutional and organizational elements that enable sociotechnical transitions to sociobioeconomy in the Amazon. The study adopts a qualitative and exploratory approach based on the analysis of four initiatives that reconcile nature conservation, social inclusion, and traditional knowledge: the sustainable management of pirarucu, fine cocoa and chocolate production in Tra

Altered White Matter Organization in the TUBB3 E410K Syndrome.

Seven unrelated individuals (four pediatric, three adults) with the TUBB3 E410K syndrome, harboring identical de novo heterozygous TUBB3 c.1228 G>A mutations, underwent neuropsychological testing and neuroimaging. Despite the absence of cortical malformations, they have intellectual and social disabilities. To search for potential etiologies for these deficits, we compared their brain's structural and white matter organization to 22 controls using structural and diffusion magnetic resonance imaging. Diffusion images were processed to calculate fractional anisotropy (FA) and perform tract recon

Diagnostic Prediction for Social Anxiety Disorder via Multivariate Pattern Analysis of the Regional Homogeneity.

Although decades of efforts have been spent studying the pathogenesis of social anxiety disorder (SAD), there are still no objective biological markers that could be reliably used to identify individuals with SAD. Studies using multivariate pattern analysis have shown the potential value in clinically diagnosing psychiatric disorders with neuroimaging data. We therefore examined the diagnostic potential of regional homogeneity (ReHo) underlying neural correlates of SAD using support vector machine (SVM), which has never been studied. Forty SAD patients and pairwise matched healthy controls wer

Social Determinants of Mental Health in Armed Conflict-affected Municipalities.

Background: Armed conflicts affect mental health. In Colombia, many communities have been victims of armed conflict and multiple social inequalities and injustices for more than six decades. Our research explored the social determinants of mental health in fifteen municipalities affected by the armed conflict in Montes de María, Colombia. Method: A convergent parallel mixed methods design was conducted. In the quantitative component, we assessed mental health (PHQ-4 and DASS-21), social support (Medical Outcomes Study Social Support Survey - MOS), and sense of community (Brief Sense of Communi

Interpersonal factors differentiating current states of suicidal ideation among young Internet gamers with past suicidal ideation.

BACKGROUND: Accumulating evidence highlights associations between young people's gaming behaviors, particularly those experiencing Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) and mental health conditions, including suicidal ideation (SI). However, most studies have not explored how young gamers with poorer mental health - especially SI - can transition towards better mental health. Interpersonal factors such as loneliness, social support, and help-seeking can be key ingredients for resilience, influencing chances of bouncing back from a suicidal state. METHODS: 1610 gamers aged 11-29 years were surveyed r

Epileptiform discharges relate to altered functional brain networks in autism spectrum disorders.

Many individuals with autism spectrum disorders have comorbid epilepsy. Even in the absence of observable seizures, interictal epileptiform discharges are common in individuals with autism spectrum disorders. However, how these interictal epileptiform discharges are related to autistic symptomatology remains unclear. This study used magnetoencephalography to investigate the relation between interictal epileptiform discharges and altered functional brain networks in children with autism spectrum disorders. Instead of particularly addressing individual brain regions, we specifically examine netw
