Malignant optic nerve glioma (MONG) is a rare but uniformly fatal disease that remains poorly understood. We describe a notable case of this rare disease occurring in the optic chiasm. Normal brain imaging and normal ophthalmic examination two years prior to diagnosis provide evidence for de novo genesis of MONG in our patient. Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) is one of the most commonly found pre-cancerous conditions prevalent in Southeast Asian countries. The treatment method used by most patients is the use of intralesional steroids. With intralesional steroids used commonly, one might come across an unusual ocular complication - central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR). We report a case of a patient with OSMF who was treated by corticosteroids, subsequent to which he developed CSCR. He was put off steroidal treatment and treated conservatively to which he responded positively.

BACKGROUND: Group A streptococcal necrotizing soft-tissue infection with toxic shock is a life-threatening disease. Corticosteroid use in the treatment of this process has been reported rarely.
METHOD: Case reports and review of pertinent literature.
RESULTS: Two infections caused by the same clonal strain of Streptococcus pyogenes are presented.
CONCLUSION: The cases illustrate the possible utility of high-dose steroids in the treatment of this process.

Thirteen children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) were treated with intraarticular steroid injection of triamcilone acetonide as a day care procedure. More than half (53.4%) the children were free of pain, limp and NSAID's use, with improvement in functional score at 12 weeks. No side effects were reported during the period of the study.

BACKGROUND: Hemangioma is a common vascular tumor. Though it involutes spontaneously, results are unpredictable. Steroid therapy is an effective mode of its regression. We present our experience of largest series and possible recommendations for treatment.

An 8-year-old boy, treated with a short course of steroids for asthma, developed a fever with abdominal pain and a generalized vesicular rash after contact with varicella-infected classmates. The clinical presentation was disseminated varicella infection with multiple organ involvement. We confirmed varicella zoster virus using a direct fluorescent antibody test. This report demonstrates the increased risk of complicated varicella associated with the use of corticosteroids, even for a short period of time.
