Patient Reported Outcomes and Complications of Stress Incontinence Surgery: Effect of Patient Characteristics.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Multiple procedures exist to treat stress urinary incontinence. A database records outcomes and complications and ascertains how surgical and patient characteristics affect outcomes. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study of 31,901 women undergoing continence surgery from the British Society of Urogynaecologists Surgical Database (2008-2019), including 24,923 retropubic mesh-tapes, 4740 bulking agents, 538 fascial slings and 1700 colposuspension. Multivariable logistic regression was used for primary analyses to compare outcomes between treatments and secondary ana

3D ultrasound mesh position and long-term outcomes after TVT surgery.

OBJECTIVES: This study evaluated the long-term outcomes after tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) surgery and examined whether 3D transvaginal ultrasound (US) mesh position parameters (providing multiplanar visualization and improved measurement reproducibility compared with 2D imaging) are associated with urinary symptoms and quality-of-life changes in women with stress urinary incontinence (SUI). We hypothesized that mesh position would correlate with long-term patient-reported outcomes. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In this retrospective cohort, 30 women underwent TVT surgery for SUI between 2012 and

Long-term outcome of the retropubic TVT procedure for women with stress urinary incontinence: 20-25-year follow-up.

INTRODUCTION: Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) significantly affects women's quality of life. The tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) procedure has demonstrated short- and medium-term efficacy, but data beyond 15 years remain scarce. This study evaluates the 20- to 25-year outcomes of the retropubic TVT procedure in terms of efficacy, safety, and patient satisfaction. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included 135 women that underwent the retropubic TVT procedure between 1998 and 2003. All surgeries were performed by two surgeons using the Gynecare TVT™ Sling. Data were obtained from medi

Adjustable TransObturator Male System (ATOMS) After Radiotherapy: Is Timing Everything? A Single-Center Experience.

INTRODUCTION: Incontinence after prostate treatment (IPT) following radical prostatectomy and/or radiotherapy for prostate cancer significantly impacts quality of life. While the Adjustable Transobturator Male System (ATOMS) is a promising surgical option for IPT, data on outcomes in patients undergoing ATOMS implantation with prior radiotherapy are limited. This study evaluates the influence of prior radiotherapy-and its timing-on outcomes following ATOMS implantation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective single-center study included 131 men treated with ATOMS for IPT between November 2

Long-term subjective assessment of tension-free vaginal tape for recurrent stress urinary incontinence: A comparison with primary trans-obturator tape.

OBJECTIVES: Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) affects 10-20 % of the female population. The primary surgical treatment for women with SUI is mid-urethral sling surgery (MUS). No clear guidelines exist for second-line management in patients with recurrences. This study compared quality of life and the occurrence of urinary symptoms after a secondary retropubic tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) intervention in patients with failure of primary transobturator tape (TOT) surgery with those who had experienced successful primary TOT surgery. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cross-sectional study

Trends in the Treatment of Stress Urinary Incontinence in a Tertiary Care Center After the Introduction of Polyacrylamide Hydrogel.

INTRODUCTION: For women with bothersome stress urinary incontinence (SUI), a urethral sling is the gold-standard surgical treatment. Despite the high efficacy of slings for SUI, up to a 20%-30% rate of complications or adverse effects have been reported, and there can be a period of convalescence postoperatively. Given this, the less invasive approach of urethral bulking may be utilized. A number of bulking agents can be used to improve urethra coaptation. Polyacrylamide hydrogel (PAHG) is a bulking agent that received FDA approval in 2020 and is reported to have longer efficacy for the treatm
