One of the authors has, for many years, operated patients suffering from social phobias by using compression block on the sympathetic nerve (1). The Finnish health insurance system has not accepted this treatment as valid for reimbursement. The present study was undertaken to evaluate prospectively the efficacy of presacral neurectomy for the treatment of midline dysmenorrhea. All patients had moderate to severe dysmenorrhea and stage III-IV endometriosis. Of the patients undergoing presacral neurectomy (N = 17), only two had a recurrence of pain. The remainder of the patients undergoing presacral neurectomy remain pain-free at 42 months of follow-up. OBJECTIVE: To summarize the experience of intercostal video-mediastinoscopy (VMS) in treatment for mediastinal masses, malignant pleural effusion and palmar hyperhidrosis.
METHODS: The clinical data of 701 patients received intercostal VMS from November 2001 to June 2007 were summarized retrospectively.
