Immune-Mediated Macular Edema After Intravitreal Methotrexate in Primary Vitreoretinal Lymphoma.

PURPOSE: To report a case of cystoid macular edema in a patient with primary vitreoretinal lymphoma (PVRL) following intravitreal methotrexate (MTX) and lymphoma remission. METHODS: Case report. RESULTS: A 76-year-old man was diagnosed with PVRL after a 9-month history of bilateral floaters and progressive blurred vision. Vitreous biopsy revealed CD20-positive large B cells, a MYD88 (L265P) mutation, and interleukin IL-10/IL-6 ratio of 1.76 at diagnosis. Systemic involvement was initially excluded but metachronous brain lesions emerged, prompting systemic chemotherapy.Macular edema developed

Podophyllotoxin and Rutin Modulate M1 (iNOS+) Macrophages and Mitigate Lethal Radiation (LR) Induced Inflammatory Responses in Mice.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Accidental exposure to lethal doses of Gamma radiation leads to the systemic inflammatory syndrome which causes mortality. In view of this, management of hemopoietic syndrome by modulating pro-inflammatory response in clinically manageable time period seems to be the most appropriate strategy for encountering radiation induced damage and recovery. As both tissue and peripheral macrophages are critical for the management of radiation induced injuries, we have unraveled the immunomodulatory potential of radioprotective formulation (G-003M) on peripheral macrophages populations in this study. Mechanism of acute pancreatitis complicated with injury of intestinal mucosa barrier.

Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a common acute abdomen in clinic with a rapid onset and dangerous pathogenetic condition. AP can cause an injury of intestinal mucosa barrier, leading to translocation of bacteria or endotoxin through multiple routes, bacterial translocation (BT), gut-origin endotoxaemia, and secondary infection of pancreatic tissue, and then cause systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) or multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS), which are important factors influencing AP's severity and mortality. Meanwhile, the injury of intestinal mucosa barrier plays a key role in AP's …

Potential Immunotherapeutic Targets for Hypoxia Due to COVI-Flu.

The world is currently embroiled in a pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), a respiratory illness caused by the novel betacoronavirus severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The severity of COVID-19 disease ranges from asymptomatic to fatal acute respiratory distress syndrome. In few patients, the disease undergoes phenotypic differentiation between 7 and 14 days of acute illness, either resulting in full recovery or symptom escalation. However, the mechanism of such variation is not clear, but the facts suggest that patient's immune status, comorbidities, and

NAMPT serum levels are selectively elevated in acute infectious disease and in acute relapse of chronic inflammatory diseases in children.

Nicotinamide phosphoribosyl transferase (NAMPT) is an inflammatory adipocytokine shown to interact in immune modulation in chronic inflammatory diseases, acute respiratory distress syndrome, sepsis, cancer and obesity in adulthood. It is, however, not clear whether this association reflects a chronic elevation or acute inflammatory response. We analyzed NAMPT concentrations in distinct states of inflammation in 102 children and found consistently significantly increased NAMPT levels in subjects with acute infections. NAMPT concentrations in children with stable chronic inflammatory diseases we

An Unusual Presentation of Acute Pancreatitis With Atrial Fibrillation: A Case Report.

Acute pancreatitis (AP) is an inflammatory disorder of the pancreas that can lead to severe systemic complications, including multi-organ failure and systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS). While gastrointestinal and metabolic manifestations are well-documented, cardiovascular and neurological presentations are rare. This case describes an atypical presentation of AP in a young, otherwise healthy male, who initially experienced bilateral ascending lower limb pain and weakness. These symptoms progressed to lower abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and breathlessness. An electrocardiogram …

The JANUS of chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases onset during COVID-19 - A systematic review of the literature.

The diverse clinical manifestations of COVID-19 is emerging as a hallmark of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. While the initial target of SARS-CoV-2 is the respiratory tract, it is becoming increasingly clear that there is a complex interaction between the virus and the immune system ranging from mild to controlling responses to exuberant and dysfunctional multi-tissue directed autoimmune responses. The immune system plays a dual role in COVID-19, being implicated in both the anti-viral response and in the acute progression of the disease, with a dysr

The Pathogenesis of ACLF: The Inflammatory Response and Immune Function.

Although systemic inflammation is a hallmark of acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF), its role in the development of this syndrome is poorly understood. Here the author first summarizes the general principles of the inflammatory response. Inflammation can be triggered by exogenous or endogenous inducers. Important exogenous inducers include bacterial products such as pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and virulence factors. Pathogen-associated molecular patterns elicit inflammation through structural feature recognition (using innate pattern-recognition receptors [PRRs]), whereas

Unilateral orbital inflammation in a child after a jellyfish sting to the lower extremities.

A 3-year 10-month-old child initially developed locally recurrent cutaneous eruptions within the first 2 weeks after sustaining a jellyfish sting to her lower extremities. After 5 asymptomatic weeks, she developed unilateral orbital inflammation that did not respond to systemic antibiotics, antihistamines, or steroids. Imaging revealed a rapidly growing mass of the right lacrimal gland. Urgent anterior orbitotomy was performed and the lacrimal gland was biopsied. Histopathologic diagnosis revealed sclerosing dacryodenitis consistent with orbital inflammatory syndrome and/or an immune response

Paradoxical Immune Reconstitution Inflammatory Syndrome in SARS-CoV-2 Infection After Improvement of Chemotherapy-Induced Aplasia.

Severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is known to manifest in two phases, with a potential worsening in the second week. The pathophysiology of the first phase is expected to be heavily influenced by viral replication while the second phase is thought to be primarily characterized by systemic inflammation. We present the case of a 42-year-old man hospitalized for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection with a history of Philadelphia-positive chronic myeloid leukemia, diagnosed seven months earlier, proposed to bone marrow allotransplantation after refractory

Inflammatory bowel disease: is it a primary immunodeficiency?

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease are chronic and relapsing conditions, characterized by abdominal pain, diarrhea, bleeding and malabsorption. IBD has been considered a hyperinflammatory state due to disturbed interactions between the immune system and the commensal bacterial flora of the gut. However, there is evidence that Crohn's disease might be the consequence of a reduced release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and an impaired acute inflammatory response, thereby suggesting that IBD might be an immunodeficiency rather than an excessive inflamm

Effect of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells on the polarization of macrophages.

Inflammation is a defensive response in the living tissue of the vascular system that acts against damage factors and involves various types of immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, endothelial cells and other associated immune molecules. If the release of inflammatory mediators is excessive, systemic inflammatory response syndrome may develop. Sepsis is the most common complication of severe burns and is a systemic inflammatory response syndrome that is caused by infectious factors and is capable of leading to multiple organ dysfunction and potentially death. Research concerning t…

The role of systemic inflammatory response index in predicting myocardial infarction in patients with unstable angina.

BACKGROUND: Unstable angina (UA) is a high-risk presentation of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) that can rapidly progress to myocardial infarction (MI) if not identified and managed promptly. Inflammation plays a key role in plaque instability and thrombotic events, making inflammatory biomarkers useful tools for early risk assessment. The Systemic Inflammatory Response Index (SIRI), derived from peripheral blood cell counts, has emerged as a novel marker of systemic inflammation, but its prognostic utility in UA remains underexplored. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the

SARS-CoV-2 NSP16 promotes IL-6 production by regulating the stabilization of HIF-1α.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is the etiologic agent of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Severe and fatal COVID-19 cases often display cytokine storm i.e. significant elevation of pro-inflammatory cytokines and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) with systemic hypoxia. Understanding the mechanisms of these pathogenic manifestations would be essential for the prevention and especially treatment of COVID-19 patients. Here, using a dual luciferase reporter assay for hypoxia-response element (HRE), we initially identified SARS-CoV-2 nonstructural protein 5
