Linburg-Comstock anomaly describes an anatomical variant of flexor tendons of the hand. Flexor pollicis longus (FPL) sends a connecting tendon to flexor digitorum profundus (FDP), causing simultaneous flexion at the distal interphalangeal joint (DIPJ) of the index finger when the interphalangeal joint (IPJ) of the thumb is flexed. Epidemiological studies have revealed a unilateral prevalence as high as 31% of individuals; however, the condition rarely causes symptoms. The anomaly can present with a restrictive flexor tenosynovitis, requiring explorative surgery to confirm the diagnosis and dis

Primary or delayed primary repair of flexor tendon lacerations in the digital sheath has become the accepted practice among surgeons expert in the treatment of hand injuries. The youngest patient reported in the literature we reviewed was 3 months old. We report a case of flexor tendon laceration at the time of delivery by emergency cesarean section. Delayed primary repair was carried out ten days later. Five months following surgery, functional results were judged to be good to excellent. The operating microscope is a valuable adjunct for tendon repair in the neonate. The procedure should be

Injuries resulting from wringer washers are still fairly common around the world. Manufacturers' data regarding wringer washers are reported. The literature is reviewed, and 104 new pediatric cases seen between 1970 and 1980 at one pediatric institution are presented. These patients suffered a wide variety of injuries ranging from simple skin abrasions to loss of limbs. Skeletal, nerve, and tendon injuries were encountered. The recommended management stresses the importance of elevation and close observation with no emphasis on compression dressing.

The hamstring muscles, located in the posterior thigh, include the biceps femoris, the semimembranosus, and the semitendinosus. The proximal portions of the hamstring muscles are subject to a variety of injuries and pathology. Many of these entities affect the origin of the hamstrings, including the tendinous enthesis, the underlying ischial tuberosity, and the surrounding tissues. Tendinosis and small partial tears at the origin are the result of chronic attrition. They may be accompanied by bursitis or hamstring syndrome. Apophysitis occurs in teenagers prior to complete fusion of the ischia

Rupture of the flexor hallucis longus (FHL) tendon is a rare condition that can occur with direct or indirect trauma; most of the injuries are complete ruptures resulting from laceration. Endoscopic calcaneoplasty is used for treatment of symptomatic Haglund's deformity, and complications of this procedure are rare. Iatrogenic FHL tendon rupture occurring after endoscopic calcaneoplasty has not been reported previously. This case report presents a rare complication after endoscopic calcaneoplasty and the proper method of treatment.

INTRODUCTION: Flexor tendon dislocation from the flexor tendon groove posterior of the medial malleolus has been previously described, and may be difficult to diagnose initially, but is amendable to surgical treatment with good outcomes. We present a unique case of unilateral dislocation of the posterior tibialis and flexor digitorum longus tendons with contralateral flexor digitorum longus subluxation that was treated surgically with a good outcome.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 37-year-old active duty male sustained a dislocation and subluxation of the flexor tendons bilaterally after a forced dorsi

BACKGROUND: Although knee injuries are common among professional football players, ruptures of the patellar tendon are relatively rare. Predisposing factors, mechanisms of injury, treatment guidelines, and recovery expectations are not well established in high-level athletes.
HYPOTHESIS: Professional football players with isolated rupture of the patellar tendon treated with timely surgical repair will return to their sport.
STUDY DESIGN: Case series; Level of evidence, 4.
METHODS: Twenty-four ruptures of the patellar tendon in 22 National Football League (NFL) players were identified from 1

UNLABELLED: Closed rupture of the tibialis anterior tendon is a rare injury, and it usually affects individuals older than 50 years of age. This rare injury tends to occur spontaneously, and this often delays diagnosis and adequate treatment. Although direct surgical repair of the ruptured tibialis anterior tendon is generally considered the treatment of choice, nonanatomic repair, tendon lengthening, or tendon transfer might be necessary in cases where shortening of the muscle-tendon unit has taken place. In this report, we describe 2 cases that involved the surgical repair of closed ruptures

Flexor digitorum profundus (FDP) avulsion injuries require secure tendon fixation within the limited footprint of the distal phalanx to achieve strong tendon purchase while minimizing tendon trauma, while osseous compromise remains a surgical challenge. We propose a novel surgical technique for FDP avulsion repair using a baseball suture configuration, a single transosseous bone tunnel, and dorsal pullout button fixation. The tendon is secured with a multi-pass baseball suture technique and advanced through a single bone tunnel in the distal phalanx, thereby providing stable fixation while min

Peroneal tendon injuries at the peroneal tubercle are rare. No systematic research regarding this pathology is currently available. In this systematic literature review, the author evaluated the present knowledge about peroneal tendon lesions at the lateral calcaneal wall. These lesions are predominantly associated with peroneal tubercle enlargement. Information on 25 respective patients (26 cases) has been published in 14 articles. Until now, only 3 reports presented 5 patients with dislocation of the peroneus longus tendon combined with inferior peroneal retinaculum lesions. In these cases, …

Subluxation or dislocation of the long head of the biceps tendon from the bicipital groove is one of the common causes of shoulder disability in the throwing arm of the athlete. This condition has characteristic symptoms; pain on throwing and relieved by rest; palpable snap at a certain point in the arc of motion. The signs are tenderness over the bicipital groove and a reproducible pop in rotation of the humeral head. The diagnosis can be quite secure and is often confirmed by X-rays profiling the bicipital tunnel. The remedy is a relatively nontraumatic operation which removes the biceps ten

INTRODUCTION: The thorough knowledge of the anatomy of the extensor tendon system of the hand is crucial for clinical examination and detection of tendon injuries. The Juncturae between the EDCII and other extensor tendons presents different incidences, shapes ("r" or "y") and morphologies (Type I, II, III). The EIP does not receive connection. These characteristics may result in variable effects on extensor tendons during active finger movements. The purpose of this study is to investigate and describe a new sign helping diagnosis for injuries or pathologies of EIP and EDC index finger (EDC I…

BACKGROUND: The functional deficits that develop after a peripheral nerve injury mean a considerable reduction in the quality of life for the affected patients. However, interventions on the injured nerve are not always possible or effective. In this case, secondary procedures, e.g. tendon transfers, are a feasible option for functional reconstruction.
OBJECTIVES: An overview of the most common secondary surgical procedures for functional reconstruction after peripheral nerve injuries.
METHODS: Presentation and discussion of the most common secondary surgical procedures with emphasis on tend

Tendon injuries are an important problem in athletic horses and are probably caused by excessive loading of the tendons during demanding activities. As a first step towards understanding these injuries, the tendon loading was quantified during jump landings. Kinematics and ground reaction forces were collected from the leading and trailing forelimbs of 6 experienced jumping horses. Joint moments were calculated using inverse dynamic analysis. It was found that the variation of movement and loading patterns was small, both within and between horses. The peak flexor joint moments in the coffin a…
