From Preferences to Practice: Clinician-Informed Strategies to Integrate the MyPref Values-Clarification Tool Into Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology Care.

BACKGROUND: Adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with advanced cancer navigate complex medical decisions amid evolving autonomy and family involvement. MyPref, a digital values-clarification tool using adaptive conjoint analysis, helps AYAs articulate care preferences and supports clinicians in initiating preference-based conversations. This study explored pediatric oncology clinicians' experiences with MyPref to identify barriers, facilitators, and strategies for clinical integration. PROCEDURE: We conducted a qualitative study using semi-structured interviews with attending physicians and nu

Stakeholder priorities for advancing integrative oncology across a pluralistic health system: a qualitative study from Singapore.

BACKGROUND: In Singapore, more than half of patients with cancer use traditional or complementary therapies after diagnosis. Such use is often self-directed and undisclosed to oncology clinicians, creating safety risks and care coordination challenges. To support evidence-informed integration of such therapies within conventional cancer care, this study explored stakeholder priorities for advancing integrative oncology (IO) in Singapore's pluralistic health system. METHODS: We conducted a multi-stakeholder roundtable at the National Cancer Centre Singapore. Twenty-two participants were purpos

The Stress of Advancement: A Nurse Practitioner's Exploration in Providing Culturally Competent Obesity Prevention Counseling in Black Women.

BACKGROUND: Black women are diagnosed, disabled, and die from obesity and associated chronic diseases at higher rates than any other sex or race. Advanced practice registered nurses (APRN) can potentially improve culturally relevant health education and counseling by using health literacy communication tools. OBJECTIVE: Explore individualized barriers and APRNs' role in providing obesity prevention education and counseling by assessing the efficacy of the Teach-Back Method (TBM) to understand health habits and attitudes. METHODS: Black women aged 18-45, previously diagnosed as overweight or

Neuropeptide B and neuropeptide W as new serum predictors of nutritional status and of clinical outcomes in pediatric patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus treated with the use of pens or insulin pumps.

BACKGROUND: Catheter-associated urinary tract infections are a leading hospital-acquired infection and are a major cause of increased morbidity, mortality, and health care costs, with 83% of pediatric cases occurring in pediatric intensive care units. Indwelling urinary catheters are widely used in adult and pediatric patients to accurately monitor urine output and manage fluid balance. LOCAL PROBLEM: Staffing challenges and high nurse turnover in a 56-bed pediatric intensive care unit led to inconsistencies in practices to prevent catheter-associated urinary tract infection. Stool contaminat

Best practices in the management of the psycho-oncologic aspects of head and neck cancer patients: recommendations from the European Head and Neck Cancer Society Make Sense Campaign.

Squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN) is considered a worldwide health care problem. The majority of patients have a history of alcohol abuse and high-level tobacco consumption; however, SCCHN is also associated with exposure to viruses including human papillomavirus (HPV) and Epstein-Barr virus. A major problem facing SCCHN patients is that their disease is often diagnosed at an advanced stage where treatment options may not be curative, or can have severe post-treatment consequences. Confronted with their diagnosis and treatment options, the patient can express a range of emot

Two-provider technique for bimanual uterine compression to control postpartum hemorrhage.

INTRODUCTION: Bimanual uterine compression may provide a reasonable treatment option for controlling or arresting postpartum hemorrhage in areas where access to care and advanced medical interventions are limited. Preliminary evidence suggests that correctly performed bimanual uterine compression is unsustainable for more than a few minutes, despite empirical evidence and practice recommendations that support extended compression for optimal effect. The objective of this study was to examine the impact of team-based (pairs) bimanual uterine compression for managing postpartum hemorrhage from u

Navigating Clinical Trial Decisions in Pediatric Oncology: An Integrative Review of Qualitative Studies.

BACKGROUND: Pediatric cancer clinical trials are key to advancing treatment and improving survival rates. However, participation relies on complex family decision-making influenced by emotional, relational, and systemic factors. Understanding these influences is crucial for supporting informed decision-making processes. OBJECTIVE: To synthesize the qualitative evidence on influencers of the decision to pursue treatment in a pediatric cancer clinical trial. METHODS: Following Whittemore and Knafl's framework, databases were systematically searched for qualitative studies on decision-making re

Clinical Efficacy and Biomechanical Behavior of Different Compression Systems in Venous Ulcers: Pressure, Stiffness and Healing.

INTRODUCTION: Venous leg ulcers are the most severe manifestation of chronic venous insufficiency, and their treatment is based on compression therapy, whose effectiveness depends on the magnitude of the pressure and the biomechanical properties of the system. Doubts persist about the actual correlation between interface pressure, bandage stiffness and clinical outcomes in real-world practice. OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical efficacy and biomechanical behavior of different multicomponent compression systems in venous leg ulcers, analyzing the relationship between interface pressure, static

Transitions of care between pediatric onco-hematology and intensive care units: An exploratory study of healthcare professionals' perceptions and practices in medication management.

BACKGROUND: As in adult care, pediatric patients experience transitions in their care trajectory, such as transfers to intensive care units (ICUs) during episodes of clinical deterioration. In pediatric onco-hematology, the administration of Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy often necessitates several days of ICU admission for post-infusion monitoring. As a result, systematic collaboration between pediatric onco-hematology and intensive care teams is becoming standard for these advanced therapies. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore healthcare professionals' perceptions, exper

A qualitative study on the challenges health care professionals face when caring for adolescents and young adults with an uncertain and/or poor cancer prognosis.

BACKGROUND: Adolescents and young adults (AYAs, aged 18-39 years) with advanced cancer have an increased life expectancy due to improvements and refinements in cancer therapies, resulting in a growing group of AYAs living with an uncertain and/or poor cancer prognosis (UPCP). To date, no studies have examined the difficulties of health care professionals (HCPs) providing care to AYAs with a UPCP. This study aimed to understand the challenges in daily clinical practice experienced by HCPs from different disciplines who provide palliative as well as general care to AYAs with a UPCP. METHODS: HC

Risk communication during treatment decision-making conversations with older people with advanced kidney disease.

OBJECTIVE: Most older people with advanced kidney disease are medically ineligible for transplant, hence the treatments available are dialysis or conservative kidney management (CKM). Previous research indicates that in the information patients receive from clinicians, dialysis is often prioritised over CKM. However, there is evidence that for older people and those with other health issues, dialysis is not always more beneficial. The aim was to investigate whether and how risks and benefits are discussed in relation to these options in consultations, to convey CKM as a valid option. METHODS:

Transforming educator expectations in public health, nursing, and medicine: a two-phase survey on digital tools in education.

The digital transformation of healthcare education has accelerated significantly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, shifting traditional, practice-oriented teaching towards digital methodologies. Before the pandemic, digital teaching was minimally adopted and lacked systematic strategies, especially in Germany’s higher education institutions. This study comprised two cross-sectional online surveys among university faculty in public health, nursing, and medicine—conducted in 2020 and 2021—with a total of 238 participants. The surveys explored the use of digital tools, satisfaction with digital teach
