PURPOSE: To describe the vision screening procedures in the three Belgian linguistic communities and present Belgian screening results.
METHODS: Analyses were carried out on 636 260 Belgian children between 2009 and 2016. Pre-school children were tested once or twice, while schoolchildren were tested seven or eight times.

Comparative measures are presented of stereo-acuity by random-dot stereograms using a phase difference haploscope and a Titmus stereogram. Using two groups of fifteen subjects each, one with full binocular vision and the other of small-angle strabismic amblyopes, greater discrimination between subject groups was found with the random-dot stereograms. It is concluded that random-dot stereograms produced by crossed Polaroid would be a more effective clinical means of determining stereo-acuity.

We report a rare case of disseminated cryptococcosis gattii infection with initial central nervous system manifestations in a 28-year old male under regular treatment for systemic lupus erythematosus since 2020. He presented with headache evolving into hearing loss, hypogeusia, amblyopia and mental confusion. This case highlights the challenge of diagnosing opportunistic fungal infections in patients with chronic immuno-suppression, emphasizing how early targeted management is critical to mitigate severe neurological sequelae and reduce mortality.
