Inverse gas chromatographic methods of isotherm determination peak maximum (PM) and peak division (PD) were compared. These methods were applied to determine adsorption isotherms of dichloroethylene, trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene on acid-activated halloysite and adsorption enthalpy.

A method based on gas chromatography (GC)-pulsed flame photometric detection (PFPD) was developed to determine the levels of organotins in aquatic food. After being purified by gel-permeation chromatography in ethyl actate-tetrahydrofuran, the organotin compounds were derivatized by pentylmagnesium bromide. Capillary gas chromatography with atomic emission detection is a highly element-selective and sensitive detection technique for many non-metal as well as metallic elements. A 3-5 order of magnitude element/carbon selectivity, compound-independent calibration and the possibility to calculate (partial) molecular formulae are some of the attractive features of the technique. In the present review, the emphasis is on real-life applications for non-metals such as sulphur, phosphorus, nitrogen and the halogens, and on the potential of combined atomic emission/mass spectrometric detection.

A simple and sensitive HPLC method that does not require derivatization for determining cholesterol has been developed. Investigation of voltammetric behavior of cholesterol showed that cholesterol could be oxidized on a glassy carbon electrode in non-aqueous solvents. Chromatographers are cautioned to avoid gradient elution when isocratic elution will do. In this work, we compared the analytical properties of gradient and isocratic separations of a sample which can be done quite readily under isocratic conditions.
