Cloacotaenia megalops (Nitzsch in Creplin, 1892) is a polyxenic and cosmopolitan tapeworm from the family Hymenolepididae. Its generic name derives from their typical location (cloaca), and the typical final hosts which are birds typically associated with water and marsh environments: Anseriformes, Galliformes and Gruiformes. Exstrophy-epispadias complex (EEC) represents a spectrum of genitourinary malformations ranging in severity from epispadias (E) to classical bladder exstrophy (CEB) and exstrophy of the cloaca (EC). OBJECTIVE: To report the urological outcome of the surgical correction of persistent cloaca, which is technically demanding and may require many procedures in an effort to preserve renal function and provide urinary continence.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A retrospective chart review from 1971 to 2003 identified 23 patients with cloacal malformations (two posterior, 21 classical) that were reconstructed. Since 1985, 7 children 2 to 17 years old with urinary incontinence from cloacal exstrophy underwent bladder augmentation and creation of a small bowel nipple at the bladder outlet. There were 3 genetic female and 4 genetic male patients being reared in the female role. Five infants with cloacal exstrophy underwent neurological evaluation and radiographic examination of the caudal spine shortly after birth. Each was found to have occult spinal dysraphism. Four had terminal myelocystoceles, and one had a lipomyelomeningocele. Pathological anatomy was confirmed during surgery for the release of the tethered spinal cords. The striking association between cloacal exstrophy and occult spinal dysraphism suggests a common developmental defect in the caudal pole of the embryo. The fate of Listeria monocytogenes in chicks perorally dosed with these bacteria at 2 days of age was determined by bacterial enumeration, immunoperoxidase staining and histological examination of the liver, muscle and gastrointestinal tract. Results revealed listerial egress from the digestive tract and elimination of the organism from the body in most of the chicks within 9 days post-inoculation. L. monocytogenes was isolated from the caecum of only one of 10 chicks examined at 4 weeks post-inoculation. Results indicate that chickens are not likely to be common reservoirs of L. monocytogenes

We report a covered urethral duplication in a girl presenting prenatally with an enlarged fluid-filled vulvar cyst, genital duplication, and urogenital sinus revealed by fetal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and serial ultrasounds.
