PURPOSE: To report 2 cases of refractory phlyctenular keratoconjunctivitis treated with topical tacrolimus 0.03% ointment (Protopic).
METHODS: Two white children, aged 5 years and 6 years, respectively, presented with refractory phlyctenular keratoconjunctivitis in 1 eye (left). Both were using corticosteroids and oral erythromycin at presentation with no relief. Examination revealed the presence of catarrhal corneal infiltrates and neovascularization associated with corneal thinning. OBJECTIVE: To determine the commonest organism cultured from the blood of children suspected to have bacterial sepsis and their antibiogram … profiled antibiogram the sensitivity pattern showed that ciproxin, gentamycin, chloramphenicol and erythromycin were the best.
CONCLUSION: Staphylococcus aureus is still a major cause of childhood bacterial sepsis. Gentamycin and erythromycin are safe and useful antibiotics in their treatment and are recommended.

We report severe nodulocystic acne in a 21-year-old man associated with ectrodactyly of the right foot and soft-tissue syndactyly of the third and fourth left fingers, and the first to fourth left toes. Fifty-three patients undergoing autologous bone marrow transplantation received antimicrobial prophylaxis with ciprofloxacin with or without erythromycin and low dose intravenous amphotericin B. Eight patients remained afebrile throughout the neutropenic period. All other patients had one or more febrile episodes. The median time to fever after the onset of neutropenia was 7 days. The efficacy of temafloxacin against Streptococcus pneumoniae in an experimental murine pneumonia model was compared with that of ofloxacin and ciprofloxacin.
